I'm honestly shocked, considering he had practically won. This is the fault of Joe Biden, because Assad's three biggest allies are involved in their own wars because of Biden. The guy couldn't leave office without something else going to shit under his watch!

I can't feel sorry for Assad.

I was pretty surprised that the small ethnic group he was from had had 30% casualties in military aged men. I read that 30% as killed but maybe it is wounded and killed. Not so surprised they decided to run.

Russia was occupied. Iran in difficulties with it's proxy Hezbollah decimated by Israel. I don't know what happened to Iraq as at one time they were helping.

It all came as a surprise but support for Assad had suddenly weakened. It seems like once HTS had success in the NW about 4 other groups piled on. Damascus seems to have been captured by others - not HTS.

A huge victory for Israel over Iran. Congrats to them.

It's good that the war is finally over, but it's not good that Assad is no longer in power and there's a power vaccum now

What goes on in the Middle East never shocks me. Maybe a little surprised Assad's overthrow happened so fast but not shocked. Unusual things have been going on there for centuries.

@KostasKouvalis From what we knew, Assad had control over his country until about a week ago, when the rebels took over Aleppo. It's interesting how quickly they moved to Damascus, the capital, and took it over, forcing Assad to resign and flee to Moscow, where his asylum request has been granted.
