What do you think about a Principal denying a student a great memorable opportunity when they could have been merciful?

It was something stupid, like some kid was being an a** to me and I told him "I'm going to kill you!" the way that kids joke about it... I was in 6th grade at the time. My Principal who I later found out claimed to be a born-again Christian when he was killed prematurely in some freak accident.. yeah, never saw that in his behavior... He gave me two days in-school suspension. The next day was our trip to see The Lion King on Broadway. It still bothers me that I didn't get to see it then. It was a pretty rotten thing to deny a child over something so stupid, and it left a scar for sure. He could've gone lighter on the penalty. He could've even delayed it, but nope..

In today's climate that would get you a 72 hour hold, charged with a hate crime & expulsion.

It does suck. Those words at that age is not suspension worthy.

I had a student who mooned his classmates / teachers / crowd from ride at senior trip to amusement park. He was arrested by Park police for the act, booked, searched, found drugs on him, enuf to trigger felony intent to distribute, federal charges cuz it was interstate transport, sex offender registry for exposing himself and when we left him there the parents were all like "You're not just getting on busses n leaving are you?" Yeah lady, were leaving him. That's the least of your concerns. Needless to say he was banned from walking in graduation. Fucked up his whole life with one dumass move.

these days, kids don't have enough consequences. you learned a lesson there, worth more than the lion king.

I asked mine if I could bring a knife to show and tell. I got a no. I stuck with that answer and didn't back talk. Teachers don't have enough power in the rooms today which is a reason we have so many brats graduate and ruin their lives or lives of others.

Given your age and mine, you would have been in post-columbine school times, meaning he likely had to take the threat seriously or the administrative board would have come down on him. I did the same thing, threatened another student in high school because she annoyed me, didn’t mean it, and I got Saturday School for it even though the headmaster understood that I didn’t mean it, the point was that everyone else had no way of knowing that for sure and had no choice but to take it seriously.

Without hearing the whole story from both sides to know who started it or how violent things got, I'd say that the principal overreacted like a sissified, liberal snowflake.

Did he sit you down and give you a fatherly talk? Of course he didn't because he hated kids.

The principal was sort of an asshole but I think that this happened right after Columbine. I worked in a K-12 school system at that time and there was a similar incident and the asshole parents in the town actually signed a petition trying to get the school administrators to expel this kid. There was a lot of paranoia about this sort of behavior.

It's never OK to threaten anyone in a place like a school. You are clearly a fucked up individual and have learned little.
