If a racist only apologizes after they discover you're rich, save their lives or have special abilities, they're still racists right?

I've heard of this happening a couple times. I've also seen an episode about a racist mother. Her teenaged son was friends with a kid she saw as ''dirty and not their kind''. She was very rude to that kid. However, when she finds out that kid has straight A's (meanwhile her son has B's and C's) and comes from very rich parents, all of the sudden she's remorseful and apologizes to the kid.

The point is she still had that racist mindset, that mentality. If that kid would've also had B's and C's at school and lived with middle-class or lower-class parents, she would've hated him till the end.

So those people are still racists right? I fail to think why does it take being extraordinary, rich or saving their lives for them to even consider you?

Racism is taught/learned from an early age. And usually from others around them who are racist like their parents, kids in school, or their whole community. It unfortunately never changes simply because they came across someone of the race they hate who is affluent or intelligent, they're just sorry and ashamed that their racism was discovered. The only way they change is by proactively working to alter their perceptions of those people, and even realizing how their own group is not perfect or spotless.

yeah their racism issue won't magically go away just because someone of that race was exceptionally. They'll probably still treat the other average citizen of that race poorly. By the time they're late teens or adults, I think it's a lost cause.

I have personally known some racist people - and some who were not white - who felt more positive about me being black only because I speak well, look sharp, and I'm genuinely a smart person, but I knew they still didn't like black people in general. They don't change just because they like one in particular.

That person isn't racist, they are prejudice. They are making assumptions based on stereotypes but willing to adjust their opinion based on individual facts where as a racist believes that someone's race causes specific character or ability and are thus inseparable. If you told a racist that your child did well academically in school, they'd call you a liar and say that is impossible, everyone knows people are your race are of low intelligence thus can not earn good grades on their own. Your child obvious cheats off of the brighter races or is doing sexual favors for their teachers to gain favoritism.

Exactly. I didn't like how that episode had a happy ending and tried making the audience believed that mother changed when she didn't. She was just caught discriminating a smart kid that comes from rich parents. If that kid wasn't academically intellectual nor had a wealthy background, she would've hated him endlessly.
