Why do racists only respect and apologize if you're rich or excel more than the average person?

I was watching a video about a racist mother insulting her son's friend. She kept assuming his parents were poor and his kind were bad influence for her son. She really thought her son was getting C's because of him.

All of the sudden, as soon as she finds out the kid's parents are rich (his father is the owner of a big corporation), he was giving her son a laptop as a gift and he gets A's on his report card (much better grades than her son), she apologizes and now welcomes him. LOL

If he was just an average student with B's and C's and his parents were middle class or poor, the lady would never welcome him and continue with her racism. Why are racists like that? They only accept you and apologize if you're rich and do something extraordinary, more than just being a simple, average person?

Oh, I've watched this video! Unfortunately as a black person it didn't come off as a surprise. When I was in school I had racists treating me differently because I was able to "speak and write properly". They're so hypocrite!
They act that way because they're interested in the non-white person's money and status. They don't care about them, they just care about their money. Deep down they're still racist and they hate you.

The video didn't convince me. The lady isn't sorry. If the kid was poor and just an average good (not an extraordinary model type) person with C's on his report card she would still hate him for no reason... pure racism.
