Social media gender discrimination?

Why average young women get many more likes (reactions) on social media from men and women too whereas when Men post a picture they don't get that much likes from women or men too? (Don't talk about picture quality please)

Well I'm asking this question because I have a personal bit of frustration about this, as a man why this discrimination happens?

Secondly, how can a man grow on social media ( I meant without reels, TikTok,) just posting pictures and get tons of likes just like women get?

Conclusion: since I have a competitive mindset, that's why I asked these questions, bcoz I have a cousin sister who got more likes though she is average and I couldn't stand it. And social media is a tool where everyone judges each other , so it's important to be good in social media

The reason for this is something called “hypersexualization.” What this term means is that anything someone does is sexualized, it could be as simple as wearing a specific outfit, existing with a certain bodytype or hair color, even something as petty as just the kinds of pictures you take of yourself. Women have been hypersexualized in our society, it doesn’t matter what any woman does there is pretty much a guarantee that at least 5 men will find what she does attractive because of something small and petty, and that number goes up online easily from 5 to 500. This makes it very easy for women to gain attention just from men. Is this attention wanted or something she enjoys? That depends on the woman, but the blanket opinion is that this behavior is a form of sexual objectification and generally frowned upon.




In contrast, men have been heavily desexualized since the 1970’s. This mainly has to do with the rise of queer men and queer culture in direct opposition to the standards of your typical conservative patriarchy. What men found attractive and used to make themselves attractive in the 1970’s worked for both men and women and the former group was often an issue because there were and are a lot of homophobic men who don’t want to be seen as gay, let alone be hit on by another man. So, culturally, masculinity became heavily restricted to specific heterosexual attributes and activities and men as a whole were heavily desexualized to avoid turning on other men. As a result, men basically have to be at the peak of their lives, if not be something extraordinary, in order to get a similar level of attention as women. I imagine if you show more genderqueerness and femininity online you’ll find your numbers going up.

Very simply, @Rider21 — it’s social validation. Just to preface this, I am a forensic psychologist so these aren’t my opinions (solely) but have psychological studies done to support them. From the outside, men require less social validation than women, men can post pics and show their niche interests like automotive, video games, sports, collectibles, etc and they are proud of them because it is subjective and they are doing it to impress others who share the same interests. Now women (not sure if you are or a man), have vain tendencies. While they may have similar interests as the male counterparts, the reactions from the same and opposite gender is completely different. But there is another part of the equation that comes into play: the attractiveness of the individual according to “societal standards”. For instance, if someone saw a woman in her 20s, wearing a miniskirt, dancing to some “TikTok inspired” track, in front of a car that’s probably older than her and has faded paint with some torn up interior… she will have the girls “♥️” her style, hair, smile and clothing, while guys are “🔥” her for the same reasons and simply because there’s a car in the pic, guys will complimenting her on their knowledge, offering to help her give advice like it was a brand new BMW. So she’s got the compliments and approval from both sides. Adversely, if a guy posts a pic of himself standing in pair of grease covered jeans and shirt, in his 20s as well, with his car or truck that’s only a year or so old with a ton of hard work and time put into it, guess what the results show? Probably has a handful of his small grouo of friends from school or work, his social circle and people who have similar vehicles or who’ve stopped to comment on it because they are fans of the year, make or model… then of course, there will always be a handful or two of people trolling his vehicle. Women post to get guys and girls to follow and approve of their lives aka validation and to feel desirable. Guys post simply to feel seen by anyone that cares to take the time to stop and comment even take notice of their existence. Social media has different target groups and goals… this may (in a small part) be a reason for the uprising in fueling gender reactions across the various platforms in the last few years. As a man dressing in women’s clothes or posting social inequalities (like Target’s sales of gender fluid clothing), this advocated the ideology of “there’s no such thing as bad publicity, without this, these would not be hot topics and no one would be protesting since they would be locally isolated or observed by niche groups. For instance, do you think if no one watched the news or social media existed, do you think the war in the Ukraine wouldve been a hot topic and had such an upheaval as it did?
