To some people they were criminals. The people who fought in the Revolutionary war were considered criminals as well.

The Jan 6th protesters were patriots. They travelled to DC on their own dime to protest a stolen election. Over 1500 were arrested. Some were tracked down over a period of years at the expense of tens if not hundreds of thousand taxpayer dollars. This was political theater and the wrong people were behind bars.

Trump is right to pardon them. I hope they get a class action suit against the government and become instant millionaires like George Floyd's brother.
