We don't need to. Trump will use tariffs as a means of behavior modification. Everybody wants our money. Take that away and POOF! You get Colombia. Trump does not have to fire a shot. Do you mind me asking WHAT has Canada been doing to the USA? I am gathering they are allowing illegals to leak into the US and drugs like Fentanyl.

I feel a tinge of responsibility for Canada because Australia & Canada are fellow Commonwealth countries and we share the same King. At a point a citizen of Canada was equally a citizen of Australia and vice versa. Plus there is a movement for closer ties with CANZUK union (Canadia, Australia, New Zealand, UK).

So I would like to know how Canadians are behaving badly if someone wouldn't mind filling me in please.

@slatyb I have a visceral reaction to illegal immigration. New Zealand is an Achilles heel for us. They tend to be a stopover for illegals. Once they have NZ citizenship we can't stop them coming to us the next day. They can't walk over though fortunately.

@pinkCadillac2 Trudeau never said that... Trump is a habitual liar. There is no money going to Ottawa from the USA to keep Canada afloat. Trade between Canada and USA is essentially balanced. The border is largely secure. Any trade war between Canada and the USA would raise prices for both countries. So much for inflation going down. USA would suffer from loss of market access, increased prices and loss of access to critical minerals and oil/electricity. Canada could find new markets for our goods. The USA should be very careful what they wish for. Do not underestimate how rough Canada could play this game... ever watch hockey?

@pinkCadillac2 The USA already don't give us a dime overall... but the USA owes Canada billions in NAFTA payments that have not been honored. The USA is not a reliable trading partner. Militarily the USA is also not a trusted Allies anymore. The USA gains much more from its military alliances than any other country. Support, access to intelligence, access to bases and so on... But discussing these issues in a critical way is a waste of time with people who behave more like members of a cult than people interested in facts and the truth.

@pinkCadillac2 I think it would be stupid to do it. Both Countries would suffer... so would Trump as prices go up in the USA. Not good politics. Tariffs are a tax on consumers. But if Trump wants to hurt American consumers we in Canada are ready for it...
