They are supposed to be America’s biggest animal alive or one of them? What did they ever do to us?

Some of the other posters already pretty much answered it. Not to mention how Trudeau has been oppressing his own people and took bribes from Chinese companies.

Also, having been to Canada almost a dozen times, I will tell you that Canadians actually hate Americans, except for the Quebecois.

I don't remember what it was, but some years ago there was a huge scandal because Canada was messing with American bank accounts or something.

They always laugh at us when we're in a crisis, but treat us badly when we're doing better than them

They put an arrest warrant out on George W. Bush

And there were multiple periods where Canadian customs officials were looking at any reason to turn away Americans and make problems for them

Our family friend would visit with Washington plates, and had his car vandalized.

Last time I was in Vancouver there were some Arabs protesting against US involvement in the Middle East and saying we were backing ISIS. And there were signs protesting US thermal coal.

They also charge Americans more at tourist attractions.

Canada did nothing. Canada responded to the USA concerns about drugs and immigration already even though negligible drugs and immigrants cross the Canadian border anyway. Canada will never join the USA... that is a MAGA fantasy. The QOL in Canada is much better than the USA so why would we ever want to mess with that? So what has Trump achieved? Very simple. He has turned your once greatest friend and Allies against you. The overwhelming majority of Canadians now dislike the USA and are suspicious of anything the USA does. Smooth move Trump.

I'm a Canadian and if you told me 6 months ago that the US wouldn't be our friend and China would be I wouldn't have believed it. For 25 years I've had US businesses and made most of my money in the States and some of my best friends are American. Our relationship has been deteriorating for 20 years. But business is business and we are happy to trade with Mexico and China if the US doesn't want our oil, gas, metals and lumber. Not having to export our electricity to NY and Michigan allows us to not have to build any power plants for a while. But make no mistake, Canada and the US are not friends right now and if Trump plans on taking us as a 51st state, we might be desperate enough sell our souls and ask China for help.

Others here have given the right answers. But ultimately, the tariffs were never meant to be imposed, only to force Trudeau to do the right thing and take some responsibility for issues on our common border, which he did.

Also, as others have rightly pointed out, the entire freakin' world imposes tariffs on the US, and our leaders have been too cowardly to stand up to it. It's time the world knows the US will use tariffs to force others to play fairly.

It's great to have a strong leader in the White House for a change. What we've seen happening in the world for the last four years is exactly what we should expect when we have a weak POTUS. It emboldens bad actors to do what they do.

We are trying to save them by forcing some decisions. As trump said, they are "beautiful people"... however, they are up there freezing their butts off in -30deg weather most of the year, they are white as ghosts. Many want to immigrate to USA and frankly, they have no way to grow citrus products themselves.

So we are trying to get an agreement to merge, or if not, improve our trade balance because our finances are terrible.
