Part of what she said:

"I decided to ask him as gently as I could to have mercy," Budde, the Episcopal bishop of Washington, said of her plea to Trump, telling All Things Considered, "how dangerous it is to speak of people in these broad categories, and particularly immigrants, as all being criminals or transgender children somehow being dangerous."

"To be united as a country with so many riches of diversity, we need mercy. We need compassion. We need empathy. And rather than list that as a broad category, as you heard me say, I decided to make an appeal to the president."

"Let me make one final plea, Mr. President," Budde said in her sermon, which lasted 15 minutes.

"Millions have put their trust in you. And as you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now," Budde said, turning her gaze towards the president.

He was quoted as saying she was being "nasty" to him, and expected an apology. Someone else said she should be on the deported list (to where? NJ? ) I saw and heard her entire sermon; there was nothing nasty about it. She was calm, kind, and speaking with much grace. My opinion is that he needs to go to church more, so he can see what he is doing wrong. Christ Himself would not approve of what his plans are.

After Matthew Shepard was brutally murdered for being gay in 1998, his funeral was so viciously and so vehemently protested that his family was genuinely afraid to bury him for fear that his grave would be desecrated. For over 20 years his body didn’t have a final resting place and when she heard about this, she invited his family to have him interred at the Washington National Cathedral, the same resting place for Woodrow Wilson, Helen Keller, and her teacher Ann Sullivan. They held a funeral for him there and his body is safely resting in peace among some of America’s most notable souls. Of course this woman would be against the rhetoric Trump advocates regarding how much he hates immigrants and the poor and disenfranchised. She’s a true woman of God. His inability to research her is his own fault.

I think that part is wrong. She could have picked scripture and talked about it which is what most sermons do... and let them think about it.

Like I said, the president should have gotten up and spoke and said "I'm a changed man... I've decided to not only buy Canada, but were going to buy the whole of South America and Mexico as well". Then we can all move freely on this land mass. Amen!"

Then give her a big hug and kiss, maybe waltz her around a bit, maybe wash her shoes.

Her sermon had to do with the occasion. It was done as a part of the inauguration, and in the Washington, DC Cathedral. So everything she said was appropriate since Trump has turned everything on its head with his militant destruction of democracy. And what would Jesus do? Probably something even stronger that Bishop Budde did!

It would have been more powerful never mentioning him, just dwelling on what Jesus said, point to the statue of liberty and other inspirational leaders including those of the right that populated country, etc.. She could have also mentioned the consequences (e. g. Jesus will spit you out..."get away, I never knew you"..."to those whom are given much, much is required").

If public, I think she was somewhat out of line. If this was in private, I think she was just doing her job, even if people don't agree with what she said.

Either way, Trump is not justified in attacking her or demanding an apology. Trump's ego is way too fragile. He's freaking president. He's going to get attacked constantly. Anyone who applies for that job knows that. If he can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Yes, it was a public service at a church. There was no malice whatsoever in what she said. I heard her speech, saw the reactions of Trump and his family. She was talking to him and basically said that he should have mercy on those being persecuted; the immigrants that are very afraid.

It seems to me that in what the Bishop said in her sermon, very politely and respectful, only expresses common sense, while what Mr Trump and his supporters only want, is to take into account their own interests in the broad sense. Everything else does not matter in their eyes.

The part about being nasty and expecting apology is plain ridiculous demagogy, which sadly works very well with the majority of citizens. Something like mass psychosis similar to what happens during a public lynching.

Trump was found guilty when there were no witnesses and no evidence. This will be overturned on appeal. His tax records have been gone over again and again and his accountants broke no laws. There is nothing illegal about having an affair. Half the people in congress would be in prison. These illegal aliens kill, rape and assault citizens but also use up resources that citizens need. Each illegal alien costs taxpayers between $35000 and$50000 per year per illegal alien every year in perpetuity. Do the math, that is a big number that cannot be sustained forever.
