Wouldn't it be effective to enforce steep fines on American companies/businesses that hire illegal immigrants?

Because the "freeloading immigrants" myth is another white supremacist trope which can be easily refuted.
It certainly should be done as well.

That is a wonderful method to make sure that they never tell the government that they are employing illegal workers and therefore pay less in taxes than today. As long as there is a profit motive for corporations to lie to the government then its a lost cause to tell them something is illegal or that you are going to levy fines on them if they are discovered.
If the long history of corporations illegally dumping toxins or breaking the law has not told you that they dont give two shits about what is legal or not then let me just tell you, they will view the fines as a problem to be solved so that they can avoid accountability while still profiting from cheap labor.
So, how do you make them accountable?
Nope. It's been tried. So has a whole of of other things. The government has been trying to deal with illegal aliens for decades.
This is why companies check your ID when they hire you. When I was young, they never did that. If you said your name was John Smith and your SS is xxx-xx-xxxx, they just took your word for it.
I assume that's enough to claim due diligence. If they check your ID and SS, what else can they do? What kind of checks should they do to effectively ensure that a person is not illegal?
If they raid a business and the employees have no SSN or any legal proof, the company should be fucked. It's not rocket science!
They can't raid every business. Plus a lot of times they DO have SS numbers.
It's like any other crime. It's not easy to catch and prosecute. I think only something like 2-3 percent of crimes end in a prosecution.
Bottom line is they have been trying to deal with illegal aliens for literally decades. It's just not easy to do. You don't know who or where they are.
The idea of stronger enforcement should in theory make companies think twice about hiring illegals. The odds of getting caught are pretty slim, but at least some businesses won't want to take the chance. A heck of a lot of others WILL take the chance though.
There is also a huge amount of under the table work. I worked in construction for years. I worked for companies when they didn't even know I was working there. They literally didn't even know who was working there.
They raid workplaces because they will work cheap if they are paid cash so they still collect benefits. They undercut American wages.
So, the companies that hire them need to feel the pain and stop this shit,!
YES!!!
MS 13 criminals may pluck chickens for a living.
So, Tyson's needs to feel the burn for paying them to pluck chickens!
Yeah and hitting these companies hard in the pocket will go a long way! If they don't get paid, they don't want to be here. Simple!
Again, companies who hire them should pay consequences.
So, no SSN number. Company gets fined for any worker who is working at their company. It's not hard to enforce this. The problem is that these COMPANIES LOVE ILLEGAL EMPLOYEES BECAUSE THEY'RE CHEAPER!!!
Yes, because they would lose money and other benefits as well.
EVerify!!! DRACONIAN FINES on employers!!! But the uni party won't bite their corporate masters
Only if its a fine that exceeds the amount saved by underpaying or not paying illegal immigrants. Wage theft means increased profits.
Nah - just deport them as well :D
