Question

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced he will hit back at the US for the tariffs on Canada. He will place retaliatory tariffs on the US. Mexico is also going to also do so. Canada will enact tariffs on $155 Billion dollars' worth of goods immediately, and more in 30 days. Canada has always backed us up. They sent a fleet of "super Scooper" planes to California to fight the fires. Canada does not want this, but they feel they are being put in a corner by Trump. I know Trump wants to place no income taxes on Americans but how doable is that in reality? Instead of bringing us together with Canada, he is separating us. 😕

The funny thing is Trudeau is a bit of a pussy but even he isn't afraid of retaliating. He retaliated during the first term of Trump over tariffs dollar for dollar and he didn't blink this time either. I'm no fan of Trudeau and I'm glad he's leaving office but this has to be embarrassing for Trump. Our biggest exports are electricity, oil, gas, cars, food and metals and it's safe to say America needs that no matter what it costs. Canada supplies most of the electricity to NY and Michigan so this could get really ugly.

If I had to guess it sounds like a strategy to me, he said he did it to control drug trafficking, the higher the tarrif is the less importing there will be which means easier flow to control when it comes to trafficking drugs he did it for both borders, Canadian and Mexican, and of course China which are the countries we do the a lot of business with and China we do the most with, I'm sure we have lots of product from all three countries coming in, the more products the easier it will be to smuggle drugs into the country, if I had to guess he slowed down that traffic to make it easier to control, I'm guessing here tho, we will have to see the end game here.

Canada will tighten security at the border and it will renegotiate trade with the US. Trudeau is on the way out so he does not care but there is a populist candidate that is supposed to be the next PM. He will want to work with President Trump/

It’s just a strategy he is using, it’s only temporary, he certainly isn’t going to keep it in place, he likes to shake things up with other countries to get better trade agreements, it’s definitely not going to stay in place, he is just doing this to work a deal, that’s how he does things. It would definitely hurt us if he actually kept it in place but that’s not how he does things

the us was already screwed. the economy was in free fall (it has been even before trumps first term). so i guess he realized economy is gonna crash anyway, so his strategy is to help it crash so it can recover and he can take credit for the recovery even tho that would have happened either way.

His tarrif plans will drive prices up and hurt us. Anyone who has studies Macroeconomics could tell you this. I took Macroeconomics 101 at the beginning of 2010, and I am pretty sure tarrifs were used to show us a bad plan.
