Hmmm.
Ok.
Well, Canada will hurt more than the U. S. as far as trade goes.
It seems that just toughening up their immigration would have been easier than resisting but they've apparently elected to act as if immigration of what they let in and what goes from their country into our country is 100% fine and chosen to fight the trade issue instead.
Ok.
Mmmm. This is really too early to make any hard results yet. This will probably need to play out over a period of time and we'll see how things work long term.
I will say, illegal immigration and illegal drugs flooding into our country from China via our direct land borders has resulted in many, many deaths. Millions of illegals get in. Immigration is a bigger threat to the U. S. than trade with Mexico and Canada.
Those that believe immigration isn't a threat to the country will probably deem even one week of higher avocado or maple syrup prices to be a tragedy that is slam dunk proof we should give up on the border/immigration issue to keep prices lower for a short term period.
Anyway. We'll have to let this play out for a while... months a couple of years to see where this goes.
Many don't give a shit about 20million illegal aliens, some terrorists sneaking in, drug smugglers, gang members, human trafficking, drugs, demographic flips overnight so they don't care about the safety of citizens. Just cheap products.
FYI, I've just read Mexico and the U. S. have already been making deals and this is on hold with them. So, we have to let it play out a little bit.
To make good deals you have to be willing to walk away from the negotiation table. We'll see how it plays out long term but I'd guess this will be averted eventually and the U. S. will get better terms in the long run.
It sounds like a real troubling trend for Europe. America is the world's largest alcohol importer. If American alcohol is not sold to Canada, then it will go on sale in the USA which will incentive Americans to buy American alcohol over European alcohol that is imported. France will probably take a walloping, given that roughly 60% of alcohol exported to Canada is wine. Thus American wine will become much more affordable than the competition domestically and Europe will feel the pain. That sounds great for Americans, not so great for the French.
No it will create an oversupply immediately, thus driving down the price domestically and sales will drop sharply. Brown Forman and Beam sontory better brace for impact.
This actually falls perfectly in line with bringing prices down for average Americans at the grocery store by reducing Canadian demand for American alcohol, while pushing out foreign competition from Europe in American markets. It's killing two birds with one stone. One could only describe it as economic genius.
Unfortunately that’s not how it works. Canada has simply stopped all imports that will have a negative impact on American breweries, distilleries and wineries. Better read more on the topic instead of attacking me personally.
You're mentally retarded, not only do you not understand anything about economics, you are not even aware of what is going on around you. You're like a lost child screaming in a department store. Canada backed down after crushing the numbers and coming to the realization that I'm right and you are wrong. They have committed to implement a $1.3 billion border plan to fight the flow of fentanyl. Go find your mom little kid.
People in Denmark are opting out of investing in Teslas, they're choosing other car producers and there are even people switching out and I think we'll be seeing more of that stuff happening.
Goes well with mister Musk suing Lego among others for not using his platform.
@NordicInScandinavia Can we say backfire?
@dustybiker2 We could say that. Sadly many are going to suffer during it all over the world.
Oh yes. I am only trying to smile through it. What else can be done. We are pawns in the early stages of what I assume will become a world war on tariffs. Wealthy leaders making choices and citizens paying the price and hurting for those choices.
@dustybiker2
I wish I could smile through it but my heart goes out (not in a Musk way) to all those that will be hurting during this.
Sadly that is true, the common citizen has always gotten the short stick of everything, that's how it's always been and always going to be.
That’s good, I hope more nations ditch those ugly shitbox cars.
I just read Canada just Canceled a multi billion dollar deal with Starlink too. I hope Elon goes bankrupt
@KrakenAttackin not bitter at all.

And why wouldn't Canadian stores and consumers dump US brands overnight? It's not like Canada doesn't have their own whisky distilleries. And hey, there's always Vodka, Gin, Rum, and Tequila too. I'm sure the Irish, UK, and European governments don't plan on starting a trade war with Canada anytime soon.
Trade wars are absolutely stupid. Trade wars with your closest allies for 200 years are imbecile level. Tariffs are intended to be targeted tools to address a particular unfair trade practice like dumping product at unfair prices. They are not supposed to be used unilaterally for political blackmail.
Once again, the utter stupidity of US voters is on full display for the world to laugh at us.
You are very short sighted air.
alcohol is the life blood of Canada because it's so freakin' cold up there.
They should take up the offer to become 51st state. Then, they can freely travel all the other states, have the biggest printing press and military in the world, and live happily ever after. I don't see a downside unless the exchange rate in the deal is unfair.
Otherwise, I wish them luck. As trump said, they are beautiful people.
I think Americans and certainly Mr Trump need to start respecting the sovereignty of other nations and territories. We can live happily without Canada becoming America. I wish Americans luck this year as they travel to Alaska, there not likely to receive any warm reception from Canadians this year.
I'll check in with my friend there and see. can't blame them. but if I ask them if want to join USA, I bet they say yes. lot of peopel don't like Trudeau.
diffinitely don't want more than one trump in the world and don't want him very often...
any other country pull that it be problem...
so yea...
@lightbulb27. Bruh, we don't want a bunch of liberal, whiny, entitled, Canadians.
@KrakenAttackin But Trump already made the invitation bruah...
get used to it.
The way Trump is treating other nations its only a matter of time until more and more countries don't want to deal with the effort of importing US goods.
Good! 1200 products from red states have been SPECIFICALLY targeted to fuck with MAGA. WTF is his problem with Canada!! Our #1 BFF more than UK or Israel!!
Not really. I imagine that the US consumes more Canadian booze that the opposite trend. Canada will get the worst of this exchange.
Well, unfortunately Canada only has government liquor sales. That gives them the freedom to simply pull US products immediately, that isn’t as easily accomplished in America where most of the liquor sales are done by private companies. The province of Ontario alone is the single largest importer of American spirits in the world. There was an interesting story about this on the news the other day.
Canada is part of the fentanyl supply chain.
No it’s not a source country. Trump is off base on that. Canada has seized more coming north, does that make America a source country?
Most of the seizures were in quantities that didn’t meet the threshold for trafficking.
As usual Trump is just using other nations as scapegoats for Americas drug problems.
Trump accused Canada of being a money laundering haven, yet Canada has more anti-money laundering countermeasures in place than America🤔
I just love how he makes shit up and every idiot in a MAGA hat believes his lies.
The purpose of the tariffs are to get Canada's attention on securing its border. If they will (and they will) the tariffs will go away. Your other blather doesn't matter and is unworthy of parsing. The only thing that matters for the next two years is results. Why two years? He has to get shit done before the mid terms. Why is is galloping now.
I find it funny how there is always different rules for Americans. Everyone else has to do this and that, yet America doesn’t need to take responsibility for anything. Let’s talk about the Amount of American guns and drug’s Canada deals with, oh right 🤨 that’s not an American problem so why should we care
Funny how this system all works
@notherndude84
Dude, come on. You know america and it's people are amazing, perfect and flawless creatures that do no wrong. Everything that is wrong for them (like the fentanyl problem, kick started by their own medical industry for profit) is to blame on others, 10 points if those others are anything else that straight, white and male.
@Dargil You're responsible for securing your own border, not the other way around.
The present situation exposes the stupidity of any attempts to seal up borders completely. Mexican border is airtight? People will come in from Canada. Both Mexican and Canadian borders are airtight? People will come in by way of the sea, from Cuba or elsewhere (even Mexico and Canada). They will use lakes, rivers, all sorts of paths that are thought to be impassable or secure. Still, they'll still manage to come in. They'll continue to come into the US legally and overstay their visa. Corrupt officials from the new trump dictatorship will gladly accept bribes from smugglers. Everyone involved could spend trillions of dollars to militarize and fortify every centimeter of the border: people will still manage to come in.
If you don't want mass illegal immigration, the best solution is to work to make every country a place in which there is sufficient quality of life so that people won't be forced to leave in search of better conditions. American billionaires like Musk and Bezos hoard most of the world's wealth. Their fortunes alone could solve many, many problems around the world. Maybe that's what Elon should be doing instead of shit-posting far-right memes and tear down the US government to make way for Trump's fascist banana republic.
"Fixed fortifications are monuments to the stupidity of man" — George S. Patton
@Danzigdawson
We won. You lost. All the pissing and moaning is the same masturbation. Makes you feel better and accomplishes nothing.
America just did what it does best, scapegoat others for its own problems. Secure your own borders, deal with your own domestic drug problem. While you’re at it tell American criminals to stop sending drugs and illegal weapons into Canada and Mexico. Typical, America always getting to play by a different set of rules, it’s no wonder everyone hates America
Pay your bills. Get your military spending to 2% like is requested by NATO. No one likes a friend who can't kick in on the bar tab.
Yes Canada needs to meet its obligations under NATO, under the previous Government they were close at 3.4%
Trudeau dropped it to 2% hoping nobody would notice. If Canada wanted to increase its military spending all they’d have the option to pay the additional amount in oil reserves to help the US military. I believe that Canada and the US have done that in the past.
And Canada can't even hit the 2% goal he set until 2030. The U. S. is not the one to blame here.
Bad
Beautiful sight. Send Trump and his evangelical goon squad a message
Trump the stupid motherfucker has to learn the USA does not own the world. I know many of his stupid ass fucking devotees/ voters who believe we control the world. The stupid motherfucker has to learn this ain't the 1890s.
Good. More good bourbon for us and they can have their shitty Canadian whiskey.
Canadian liquor commissions are the single biggest purchasers of American liquor globally. Aren’t you concerned about the impact on American distilleries and wineries?
Nope. We can pick up the slack, and prices will fall for us. Canada can stop the flow of fentanyl over our border if it wants.
Canada isn’t a source country for fentanyl. Trump is full of shit as usual.
More fentanyl was seized by Canadians going north than going south.
They seized 50lbs of fentanyl coming in from Canada last year.
0.2% off all seizures. That’s hilarious 😂
Hit Canada with 25%
Hit China with 10%
Even though China is making the stuff and sending it via Mexico
It’s enough fentanyl to kill 11,000,000 people. Maybe your fag prime minister should get his shit in order.
I live in ND you ignorant hillbilly
Oh so you’re slightly less gay than the average Canadian.
Are you insulting the good people of ND? How un-American of you.
Peace Garden State all the way!!
No, just you.
Go impregnate your sister you homophobic hillbilly
Boy you just came up with that fantasy quickly. Sounds like a bit of projection.
Nice deflection, but I bet you are to stupid to find ND on a map
I can’t imagine all people in North Dakota are this gay.
I bet your sister is ovulating better tap that
I guess staring at cows all day can make a guy fantasize weird things.
🍿👀🥃
I guess living in a trailer makes you crave your sisters pussy
You’re still trying to act cool? After Mexico and Gayer North Dakota agreed to Trump’s terms?
I know Canada isn't a major source of Fentanyl, but try telling Trump and his groupies !!!
Troubling? No. Stupid? Probably.
In what way?
To expand on that...
That's thousands of Canadian dollars worth of inventory that the store is not going to sell. Writing off a loss like that is going to seriously dent the store's bottom line.
Most Canadian provinces have government liquor stores and can simply stop selling American liquor literally overnight. Ontario is the largest single purchaser in North America. I’ve heard the losses to American distilleries, wineries and breweries could reach $155 billion per year. I wonder if Jim Beam could afford to take a sales hit after a devastating fire in recent years?
Of course they can stop selling, but where does all that liquor go? Who accounts for its lost value?
Good for them.
Sad times.
Don’t care
Yaaawwwn...
