I was on the phone to my boyfriend who lives in another country. He told me that there were two annoying foxes out in the garden so he went out with his pellet gun and tried to shoot the foxes. I told him not to and said it was very wrong to injure an innocent animal, but he told me that the pellet wouldn’t kill the fox it would just shock it or sting a bit

Kinda depends what is going on. It's cruel, but in some places, it's life and reality. In the country, people don't feel as much for animals if they are annoying them.

Foxes, I don't see how they are annoying anything unless he has chickens.

Spoken like someone who has never owned a small pet or raised chickens. Foxes also commonly carry rabies. If you think foxes are harmless you are wrong. A pellet gun will not harm that animal, just scare it off.

Foxes are in Australia but they don’t carry rabies here. Usually people have guard dogs to scare away foxes from chickens or other farm animals.
My family had guinea pigs and rabbits.

The rabies possibility is real in the US in squirrels, skunks, raccoons, opossums, cats, dogs, etc. Pretty rare for a human to get bit and contract it. Anyway, my main point was he wasn't blasting them to pieces with a shotgun, he was scaring them off with a pellet gun.

Foxes are nasty predators, hardly innocent. There is no way a pellet gun could do any damage to those things. If you really feel like you want to make a BIG deal out of it then go ahead
