Should the US pass a law that if the budget deficit that Congress passes is greater than 3% of GDP then no member of Congress can run for reelection?

Warren Buffett once said "I could end the deficit in 5 minutes. Just pass a law that makes congress ineligible for reelection if the deficit is greater than 3% of the GDP"

You put taxpayers into more debt you get fired from Congress. Pretty simple solution don't you think?

Isn't it about time that we make it clear that our money belongs to US and NOT to the government? And if we grant them the privilege of using some of it for out benefit, they damn well better use it wisely and efficiently FOR OUR BENEFIT NOT THEIRS?

We have literally gone for GENERATIONS without ANYONE looking out for the taxpayers in the federal government. It's about time that we have someone who is turning every single department upside down, auditing it and eliminating the gigantic network of waste, fraud abuse and corruption that is stealing from the American people.

President Trump's DOGE department, with Elon Musk at the helm, has ALREADY uncovered TENS OF BILLIONS of dollars of waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government in just a couple of weeks. And it is just getting started.

Why the Democrats would be doing so much to try to thwart their attempt to cut this massive fraud in government off is beyond comprehension.

Congress pass a law that would restrict itself from taking kickbacks and lobbying for reelection and automatically disqualify itself for getting too much of their pork spending in the annual budget? Yeah, sure, that’ll pass I bet.

Correct, it wouldn't get rid of the current debt. But it would prevent it from getting even worse or happening again once the dead is reduced.

Well if I’m understanding it right the debt can still increase by 3% a year so it can still get worse by billions a year and there is still the question of where you would cut funding. But I don’t know enough about money to say anything more

No 3% of GDP would be okay. You have to have a little bit of slack in there because of economic growth. But in Biden's last year, 2024, he spent more than twice that. That's inflationary. It's the insane spending he's done over the last 4 years that caused the inflation. He was giving away your money to other people including crooks in the government, like it was candy to buy votes.

And along with that, there should be a law that retired "lawmakers" (a misnomer, I know) should have to get SS and not federal pensions. THAT would wake them up.
