u 7 moNo. You seem to be reacting to the idea that some people abuse power and this would prevent that abuse. First, if no senator served for than two terms, then the abuse of power would still occur. If people abuse power, then they should be dealt with appropriately rather than enacting a rule that also affects those who never abused power.
Second, power can be abused by Congressional staffers and, if elected officials are term limited, but staffers are not, then - as a result of their longevity - some power would shift to the staffers.
Third, dealing with government business in Congress or in a state legislature requires some knowledge and experience. Imagine if you were suddenly appointed to serve in your state Senate and you were then placed on the finance and taxation committee; would you know anything about that subject, or would it take you several years to develop the necessary expertise.
Term limits cause some problems as much as they reduce other problems. What you know about Congress and your state legislature are solely limited to what you are told by the mainstream media. Don't trust that the MSM gives you a clear and accurate picture of what happens in Congress or state legislatures. A headline of "corrupt politician" gets attention and views; a headline of "honest and dedicated politician" does not.
I know about this because I worked in a leadership office in my state legislature for two years. I saw corruption and abuse of power but I also saw dedicated politicians who had integrity.

All this might be fine and maybe one day will be fine again, however right now we have a House and Senate who do nothing but answer to their Master and the current Supreme Court studies a case for awhile then asks the Master what he wants to do. Once the master and his thug accomplices are gone things might get back to the way they once were.

And they should not be exempt from any laws that apply to the citizenry.

I think AIPAC is more symbolic than transactional. If someone is bouncing on the AICoc, they are all elligible to getting Epsteined or similar. Swore some sort of oaths. Have some soft of compromising dirt on them.
Otherwise, what is a million dollars paid throughout lifetime to someone whose yearly salary is multiple millions?
711 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. That was tried, but our master will not allow it. That was voted in, but since our masters own the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional. In effect, the Constitution is not worth a damn. The clear language of the Constitution doesn't matter because the courts will say the Constitution means whatever our masters wish.

5.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Maybe, but far more than 2 terms, in my opinion. A fixed maximum age to refresh Congress every generation or so. Nobody should be promoting a 77 year old over a popular 33 year old for congress.
Without the term limits on the presidency, Clinton would have dealt with 9/11 (or it might not have happened, because he took intel warnings seriously), there would have been no Afghan and probably no Iraq wars, and a continued economic surplus. More recently, Obama would have been president when COVID started (with experience of a previous pandemic), saving hundreds of thousands of American lives. If Carter had won his second term, coal would have been closed down earlier, saving thousands of American lives a year. https://news.utexas.edu/2023/11/27/coal-power-killed-half-a-million-people-in-u-s-over-two-decades/ (I understand that's not a term limits thing, but it's pretty damned important to note who was on each side of history.)

7 mo@Kelly6 ,
Not almost Kelly, our career politicians have all been bought for a long time. And yes term limits are way overdue. Here's the problem... the people who would need to vote term limits into law are the people who are currently taking the bribes. They will never vote to end their own corruption. We need the question of term limits to be on the ballot in a federal election so the people can decide. But the people taking the bribes will never allow that question to appear on a ballot. They know 90% of the population would vote for term limits. The US government is owned by a handful of Oligarchs. We are no better than Russia.

There are so many long-serving politicians, who keep getting elected based on name recognition alone, despite doing absolutely nothing for the people they're supposed to represent.
Like Mitch McConnell - he's been senator for Kentucky for the last 300 years, but what has he ever done for the Kentuckians who kept on electing him? It's still one of the poorest states in the country, rating among the worst on education, unemployment, healthcare outcomes, drug addiction rates and many other metrics.
It would be a shame to lose great senators, like Bernie Sanders, but I'm sure they'd still be influential in other ways.
Obviously, there's nothing inherently wrong with not having term limits, and the real issue is stupid people voting stupidly - but that's a very difficult problem to fix, whereas imposing term limits is pretty easy.00 Reply1.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. With anything in life there is always going to be 1 bad apple a con man someone evil to try to change everything I say yes put a term limit on things but you have to understand it's not so much the politician, it's the secret societies who have all the money that help get them re. Elected. There's 16 secret societies in the United States. Maybe more by now. They've been here forever. They are the riches of rich and they are the ones around the countries. Our politicians are just ponds
13 Reply5.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No. I don't believe in term limits because voting is a form of speech and by limiting who I can vote for by term limits, my speech is limited.
Besides, when you get a good politician, like FDR, you don't want to be forced to have to vote for an inferior product. I wish Obama hadn't been term limited...

7 moYes, Congress should have term limits. 2 terms of 6 years each, 12 years for Senators, and 4 terms of 2 years each, 8 years for Representatives in the House.
If the President can't serve more than 2 terms, 8 years, then Congress should be limited too.

That's not much of a bar though. I know people my own age that can't, hell I know people younger than me that can't.

7 moAbsolutely!!! Mandatory two term limits. Also members of Congress should not be allowed to vote on anything that affects their pay or retirement benefits.
00 Reply2.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I think two terms for the Senate and five terms for the House should be sufficient. That way you end up with 10 years in the House, 12 in the Senate, and 8 in the White House; for a total of 30 years.

7 moThey definitely should’ve turned limits because it doesn’t make any sense why they don’t and the president , the governor and the mayor does.
00 Reply 11.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It will not matter. No matter their age, they all can and will be bought. That is the way our corrupt system now works.
10 Reply3.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. The problem is some of the worst members of congress are also some of the youngest. What we need is better quality control.
00 ReplyI think they shud put an age limit such as no one older than 74 can run for Senator, no one older than 78 for a House Rep.
