Do you find it strange that people stand on escalators?

Yeah, I don't understand why people just stand on them either. You can still walk and get their faster.
I think Yes to " just make people lazy " ..
I also always try to take the stairs if there are some.

Our courthouse has escalators which service the first three floors and using them is much quicker than waiting for an elevator. That is the only place I usually use an escalator.
They had escalators in department stores 🏬 which had a few floors. It makes perfect sense to stand on the escalator when you've been shopping and have a lot of packages to hold. And for each floor you want to go to you have to take it for every floor you go up to.
Did you ever think of disabled people using it because they can't walk very well?
Did you think that maybe the person is tired?
Did you think not everyone is young and healthy and they need to take it slow? Not everyone is fit as a fiddle ya know?
I could go on and on but I am wondering why you didn't think 🤔 of these things before you asked the question.🤷🏼♀️
An escalator is usually a very small section of a building and is not easy to get on or off for disabled people. Elevators are usually made for people that are disabled and cannot climb stairs. Or electric lifts for people that use wheelchairs. I don't think that's a viable reason.
How did people ever get by without the invention of the escalator before? To address your tired factor, you think people just stop moving and give up on going where they're going because there's no escalator? That makes absolutely no sense.
Not everyone is young and healthy, but escalators aren't the solution to people who aren't.
Did I think about those things? Truthfully, no because I don't find them relevant.
@sage2021 Whoa whoa. Come on now, miss. I wasn't intending any offense and I've already respected you and thought of you as a nice lady. I didn't realize I offended you here either. It wasn't my intention.
I just stated my opinion and defended myself after you said "I could go on and on but I am wondering why you didn't think of these things before you asked the question."
That sounded like a passive aggressive way of being condescending and implying I'm stupid. If we're pointing fingers, I think anyone reading this would likely find you guilt, if anything 😂
I still find your argument not relevant and it's completely okay to disagree. Just because I respect you doesn't mean we'll agree on everything. And if you make a comment implying my stupidity, I'll naturally defend myself.
Again, all peace and love here.
I just Re-read your question and the other things that you said to convince people that standing on the escalator is being lazy - and who let all those tacky people on the escalator that BLOCK YOU when you are the one that uses an escalator as a means of your daily work out routine - but that's YOU and NOT everyone else!
You are only 31 years old so you weren't even a twinkle in your mother's eyes when they first installed escalators in buildings but I was alive and witnessed what escalators were designed for and how to use them.
Back in the day, nobody ran or walked up while on an escalator. Nobody!!
People would have thought something was wrong with a person if they walked up the escalator. We got on, and it took us to where we were going. Period.
When Trump announced he was running for president the first time, did you see how he and his wife rode down on the escalator? Because they knew how to ride an escalator and you do it your way but it doesn't mean that everyone else is doing it incorrectly does it? Nope! It doesn't!
I invite you to come on GaG and tell us your riding the escalator experiences when you are 71, 81, or how glad that someone invented the escalator because you weren't feeling well one day and it took you to your destination in a nice calm fashion.
I never really thought about it or cared.. if no one is on it I walk up but most the time people are so you just stand behind them.. I personally don't care because if I am out shopping I am just doing it to waste time lol. I think people stand because would you really want to fall down on an escalator and just keep falling or knocking people down 😂
No, especially if you've got luggage. But you should stand on the right to allow people in a hurry to get past (in the London Tube, at least).
Some Tube escalators are extremely long, the longest apparently rises 27.5m (Angel, Islington).
https://www.youtube.com/embed/wvkbnG4QGN8I'm never in that big of a hurry.
The 30 seconds you might save only to end up standing in front of me in the same line didn't really acomplish much.
You see it driving, people weaving in and out of traffic and they are right next to you at the next red light.
If you are in that big of a hurry leave earlier.
Lots of times I use the stair, it's good exercise.
I stand on escalators. If I want to walk up stairs then I’ll just use the damn stairs.. lol. I don’t understand people who walk up escalators, why even bother using it if you're going to do that?
Haha nice counter 😄 no offense @HawkPerception. I see both sides. I like to walk up them cos I'm impatient and don't like standing still and I agree with H that it means you can go even faster! But I also get why the point of escalors is to transport you without needing to step.
I see it as time recovery. Like going through a green light just as it changes.
Of course you could have slow people on the stairs too so won't get up any faster than if you took the escalator.
They assist the elderly and others that may be handicapped in some way such as a heart condition or bad arthritis that can't use regular stairs, so standing on moving stairs or riding an elevator works best for them.
I just get on and hold and I try not to overthink my already overthinking heights phobic brain 🧠 👀
Standing on escalators is no stranger than walking on stairs.
No if I’m going to stand I stand off to the side so people can pass me in a hurry.
It’s not strange as long as they are not in the left side.
It's a free world.
Stand - or walk - where ever 'you' want.
Yes, for sure. I mean, are they really that lazy? Legs were made for walking.
Why would you walk up or sit on escalators? Only if your in a hurry would you walk up them.
Yes, somewhat. The few times I've navigated them I climbed or decended like regular stairs.
It depends it I have broken my leg or not. But standing just waste time. But do stand if wearing sandals though
No, people are lazy.
Get older you will find out
Doubt I will. I take care of my body. Secondly, if you're incapable of walking stairs, you probably shouldn't walk anywhere as it means you'd likely be unable to walk anywhere. Just stay in a hospital or something and let others care for you
