The constitutional answer is to not enforce a single federal 'regulation'. A real regulation is to make trade regular as in abolish state barriers to trade not create new ones.

Least of all on products that don't necessarily even leave the state they were produced in, Just because FDR's hand picked court says everything regardless of being commerce much less trade that cross state border (interstate) is somehow interstate commerce.

Don't enforce a single one. Let the states impose the legal limits on what people can buy and drive on their roads. California does that all the time. The federal executive shouldn't have to lift a finger.

I have emailed DJT suggesting a roll back only to 1990 and to commission the simplest, lowest cost mid size sedan possible from GM, Stellantis, Ford and foreign brands built here to see what they can do.

For emissions, continue making them more stringent, but realistic and affordable.

For things like safety features, we started getting diminishing returns long ago. Let the buyers decide what they want in a car, as long as they are informed and not deceived from one side or the other.

I've been to many states including Texas where your required to have your car checked regular. If so what point is there in the unconstitutional federal overreach there?

I don't know how many states have emissions checks. My guess is that it's a minority. That's just a guess since I've never looked into it. When I lived in California they had them. My current state used to have them, but quit doing it a good 15 years or so ago.

i don't see it as unconstitutional or an outreach. I'm a pretty staunch state's rights advocate, and against most of what the federal government does. But some things ARE within the power of the federal government. I think emissions controls are within their constitutional powers.

We have a written constitution because it is the limits of our states consent to be governed. We did not consent to such domestic power because our state governments are more than capable of welding the same.
Thus making such power lagly the subject of corruption of regulatory capture. The same capture that has prevented all but 1 new car

IMHO The average weight is lower, but EV's wear out tires and roads. DEI had been OK in some was for cars. Except ex-racers/laymen like me can't fix them. The average weight is higher, compare a 1990s model of any vehicle all the way up to 2025. You will see the vehicle get chunkier by the year.

No need to debate. I'm going back to the 70's. My grandfather had one of these alive in the barn.
It got 8 mpg and weighed 5400 pounds.

I would do away with CO2 emissions regulations but retain testing for particulates and smoke from bad running engines. Fuck smog pumps and catalytic converters.

I would definitely retain safety features like air bags, efficient seat belts, collapsible steering wheels and even front and rear crush zones. As a motor vehicle damage field adjuster/appraiser from 1980 to 2010, I saw how many lives those things saved.
