Is Florida new law to regulate car music levels overboard and looking to control people's freedom?

It’s funny, I play my music pretty loud when I’m driving….. like where else can I do that but in my car? If I do it at my home, the neighbors would complain about the sustained noise, let alone my lady, lmao. My car is all I have. I understand maybe not parking somewhere and blasting it, but if i’m just moving through traffic? Fuck that.
I’ve been accosted by civilians on multiple occasions in my 20s for my music. The common denominator of all these events was that it was when I was listening to rap, and the complainers were middle-aged white people. Not for nothing, I’ve had just as many people COMMEND my music too. Some Puerto Rican lady called out to me and said it was good to see a whiteboy keeping it hood, lmfao. Ok, whatever, but thanks?😂 Or just people in neighboring cars would be like “DipSEEEETTTTTT” (if I was listening to Dipset, as I usually was in that era, haha). Those folks were usually younger and were Puerto Rican or black, except for a white guy outside of the hockey store a few months ago when I was listening to Johnny P’s Caddy when it first dropped, and the kid was just like “I’ve been listening to this song all week. Sorry, I just heard it and had to comment.”, and we just both said J. Cole might have the verse of the year on that track, and then went on our way. That was actually refreshing to hear, haha.
This white lady in the town I went to college in (which was SUPER soft lmao) pulled up next to me at a red light when I was listening to my music relatively loud. I forget the song but it wasn’t anything wicked vulgar or anything, it’s not 1988 2 Live Crew😂 She goes “excuse me…um…don’t you think your music is a little loud? It’s kind of like… “assaulting” other people.” Oh my god. OH MY GOD. Lady, you are not cut out for life on Earth if that constitutes assault to you, just lmfao. I wanted to cuss her out but thought about what my mother would say, haha, so instead I said “Congratulations, ma’am. You must have a great life.” She looks confused and says “excuse me?” I said “If hearing a song you don’t want to hear for literally 30 seconds at a stoplight is enough to ruin your day, then you clearly don’t have any REAL problems.” She had nothing in response, lmfao, and the light changed and I was out.
But yeah, the thing that really bugs me about this is police aspect. I feel like driving laws are filled with all these minor infractions they can stop you for, and it’s not that they truly care about the infraction, but it’s just an excuse to pull you over and “check you out.” This sounds like the next excuse after tinted windows and objects hanging from you rearview mirror. Zero chance they give a fuck or think it’s dangerous (I love how the tint thing is purportedly all about the safety of cops, too, literally no other reason to object). We have “MD” license plates here for doctors, I don’t know why they’re needed, but we have them, so sometimes you see a nice car drive by with an “MD.” Might be a CLK with tinted windows or something, and I guarantee you no cop will ever pull them over just to check their tint level when they identify them as a doctor. Hear some loud music that might be linked to particular ethnic or racial groups in America, like rap or reggaeton or something…. I bet that tint is getting checked. That’s just what I don’t like, all these little reasons for the law to stop and check you out if they profile you. Fuck that.
It just hurts my ears when people play things too loud. Not to mention its rude to force other people to listen to your shit
@WhiteBoyChill: You can put your windows up or leave. You don't have to stay and listen to the noise from the car.
@WhiteBoyChill I mean, I can appreciate that if it’s for a sustained amount of time. But just cruising in traffic or stopped at a light? And it also just feels anti-rap a lot of the time. I listen to rock music loudly too, I’d argue it’s even louder by nature with the guitars and some of the bands I listen to scream as much as they sing, it’s not soft melodies, haha. Nobody looks at me sideways in that situation. I resent that it’s only when I play specific genres as much as I resent people just generally having a problem with it for short periods of time. And I’m of course respectful, if I’m listening to something overly profane and I see people with kids, or elderly people, or if I pass a funeral or an outdoor wedding or similar function, I’ll turn it down or put my windows up. I just expect the 15-65 crowd to be able to handle periodic brief disruptions in public, haha.
In a city such as Los Angeles, it is *NOT* just momentary. You will encounter it at the next stoplight, either by the same asshat or by someone else. All. Day. Long.
It's irrelevant that it's a minor irritation. It's an irritation nonetheless. Would it be acceptable if your neighbor blasted music momentarilly but periodically for hours on end? Of course not.
If having to turn your music down is your worse problem, I congratulate you. And I don't think it's anti rap. It's anti loud booming bass, which rap coincidentally has lots of. Window rattling bass. I've seen it set off car alarms. If Wagner had such a bass, I believe it would be just as regulated.
@Bluemax Haydn!😂😂😂 That reminded me of this DJ/producer duo, Prince Paul and Dan The Automator, who collaborated as “Handsome Boy Modeling School” ( a reference to an episode of tragically forgotten 90s sitcom Get A Life, starring a young —but still somehow old?— Chris Elliot lmao). A couple songs were classical music over a drum beat, and humorously mixed with cuts of dialogue from the aforementioned TV episode. Came out about 20+ years ago but it still slaps😝🙌
https://youtu.be/4CdegX9Kkgo
And one guy even took the time to match the song up to the show for the second of the two songs…

Anyway, your point is well taken about LA traffic, I’ve been there, haha. Maybe we’re thinking of different levels of loud, too. I’ve always had factory speakers, I couldn’t shake the neighborhood with bass even if I wanted to. I feel like it’s more just “audible” than “loud”, but whatever.
Good to see ya around, old sport👊
https://youtu.be/r_NMrhO7rDo
This is what I was listening to. Classical music *can* be loud, it just seldom has a booming bass. But honestly, when the cop explained why he pulled me over, I couldn't help but laugh. 😂😂😂😂
I kept thinking of Footloose. I wanted to say, "Um, officer, call John Lithgow. I'm sure he'll approve of Haydn." 🤣🤣🤣😋
My father taught me one thing many years ago about my rights. He told me to double up my fist and stretch it out. He stated that is end of your rights where where it reaches and touches the other guy's nose. His rights touches your nose. That is as far as our rights go.
I love music🎵 but I also know my style of music is not your style of music. Some music has a tendency to interrupt people's thoughts. I t becomes very irritating, aggravating and I want to destroy that guy's beautiful sound because it's infringing on my rights. People need to be respected. I don't like it when I'm in a beautiful moment and some guy pulls up behind me his tunes are blur and so loud it vibrates my car. I cannot wait till the light changes. I just want to reach into that guy's car and yank him out of there and beat the shit out of him. But I know he's got the right to play his tunes. So the light changes and I go on my way and I don't have listen to his style of music. We need to learn to be respective to other people's rights also. That is when somebody complains, which creates a noise ordinance.
Just remember where your rights are and your neighbor's rights. Keep your tunes down where you can hear them but not share them. That's where your rights stop. I just remembered what my father.
Freedom of speech doesn't give you the right to disturb others with loud noise. If you play your car radio so loud that people on the street and other driving by can hear it, that is very inconsiderate and rightfully should be prevented with fines. No one plays a care radio that loud except to attract attention.
LOL smh..
kind of, but what should be illegal in all 50 states are those customized exhaust pipes that literally sound like freaking gunshots

My first thought was that they'd base it on decibels for loudness, which would make some level of sense but according to a link in your article it's "audible music from more than 25 feet away," and that's not much at all, even with the windows up. I could understand wanting to stop people from blasting music in residential areas, and tailoring the law accordingly, but that seems pretty absurd and more as another minor ticketable offense, especially for the cities where cars are stationary and a passing cop could notice. Or an excuse to search a car or driver for something else.
You must live in a very polite area. I can't tell you how many times I've been interrupted by some young punk driving by, blasting nuclear bass notes at everyone within a hundred yard radius. Sometimes I'll be trying to SLEEP, and unable to, because all the world HAS to know his opinion on the local "hoes". You try that in Chicago, and it'll be a contest between the cops and the local thugs who stops you first.
If you REALLY want my support, DeSantis, start enforcing the turn signal laws. They ARE required, even out here.
Places have always had noise ordinances and I agree with them. You might think you have a right to do it, but by doing so you intrude on other people's rights. You can't put your rights above someone else's. I don't know the details of a Florida law, but noise ordinances are pretty lenient. They allow reasonable sound volumes and typically aren't even enforced unless someone complains.
It is funny how people think when you unleash government control, it will only affect certain groups. They truly think it isn't going to come back and bite them in the ass.
I don’t blast my music so I don't know what the f you’re talking about
@WhiteBoyChill But other folks who share your skin complexion do.
And even those who share your racist beliefs.
So you do know what the fuck I am talking about.
Just because someone shares my group identity doesn’t mean I like them
@WhiteBoyChill Dude, you are the racist not me.
You are great. . . not because you have done a single thing in your entire life.
You are great because you are a member of a race.
That's all.
So all this new nonsense about not liking folks is all bull doo.
You had better go back to Stormfront High to get schooled again.
I’ve met white people I didn’t like before. Particularly liberals. And get this. Plenty of liberals are racist.
They want to segregate college graduation ceremonies.
Does that sound inclusive to you?
@WhiteBoyChill You sound like a toddler. There isn't a group identity, culture, ethnic group, clan, race, tribe, or lodge where all the members like each other.
To even suggest that makes for a group identity is beyond disturbing.
The point is simple. You believe you possess a group identity called "White" . That group identity and that group identity alone makes you better than folks who are not "White".
Racism for all its protestations, lies, half-truths, rationalizations is that simple.
This has nothing to do with you disliking other "Whites". Even group identities are real, don't require members to like everyone.
Why the fuck is a racist mad when other people who are not "White" decide to be racist too?
That's doesn't make any fucking sense!!!
Either all racism is wrong. . . or all racism is good. What in the sideways fuck?1
It has nothing to do with what I think but only what’s rooted in reality. You can deny it all you want but 76% of black children are in single family homes and black people commit 50% of the nation’s violent crime.
Does that sound like a civilized culture to you?
Its not that I’m lying to myself and telling myself I’m better, its just that put next to most other black people I am that way
@WhiteBoyChill
That doesn't sound like a culture son.
That's sounds like a "race".
You quote racial statistics to tell me what a culture is doing. And in your racist mind. . . I am guilty of because of something because of a crime committed by a guy fitting my racial description.
And I am just saying that insane batshit nonsensical racist bullshit.
So we have a bit of a disagreement.
@WhiteBoyChill No actually that's not true. In truth, based upon personal achievements, you couldn't even lick the ass of an average "Black" person.
Because you are lying cowardly troll.
You see, your sense of worth comes from your racial membership. And only your racial membership. That's why you are such a disgusting human being. You can't develop as an individual because you already lay claim to greatness, based upon your race.
@RolandCuthbert My point is black people aren’t holding other members of their race accountable every time they f*ck up. They’ll spend their time trying to defend their actions (like with Rayshard Brooks) and calling Police racist instead of admitting they were at fault
That’s why I have less respect for black people. They don’t hold believe in holding themselves accountable for things like white people usually do.
Do white people have a tendency to usually side with the criminal and try defending them? The answer is no.
*that white people usually do*
@WhiteBoyChill No that isn't your point. Your point racial responsibility. A race is responsible for its "statistics". That again, is insane nonsensical racist bullshit.
Because again, it absolves you from being a loser, a dumbass, a pathetic piece of trash.
No one holds you accountable, right? For your inability to achieve anything of record. Your claim to fame is your anonymous racist posts on the internet.
My ex-girlfriend, has worked for the government at the highest levels of this nation. She has published over a dozen papers. She has contributed to research that may one day save your insane racist ass. My niece is getting her doctorate in psychology. My other niece is a pediatrician. My third niece has her masters of business administration with her husband, my nephew. My second nephew just purchased a four bedroom house in Indiana.
But somehow, they are supposed to look at their personal accomplishments and feel sad. . . because some folks they do not know. . . in a city you cannot even name, killed or beat up another "Black" person.
That's just how insane and batshit racism is.
You want to talk about folks defending violent criminals while the forum is littered with freaks who justify January 6th. Who also justify the murder of George Floyd, Tamir Rice, Breonna Taylor, and more.
And the funny thing is. . . you even justify the murder of "White" citizens as you refused to offer one finger of support to widows like Don Damon or Laney Sweet. Or the family of Shannon Rupert. As again, you know that getting justice for them, would put more pressure on police to provide justice to "Black" folk.
@WhiteBoyChill No sane "Black" person is trying to get any respect from you. You aren't even worthy of respect. You are a coward. You are a child. And you are a racist.
Your kind isn't worthy enough to lick the ass hairs on a "Black" person. So what kind of freak would come to you seeking respect?
And of course, I hold myself accountable for the things I do and the things I say. I took responsibility for my nieces and nephews when my sister could not raise them.
What do you take responsibility for? You don't even possess the integrity to say this racist shit in public.
I guess it would depend on what levels they limit the sound to. We live in a society where stupid laws like this get made because a small amount of people abuse a freedom. Laws are an infringement on freedom period. People just choose which freedoms are worth forfeiting to keep society running smoothly.
It's a good law. Excessive sound is annoying, distracting and potentially dangerous. A driver should be paying attention to driving, not excessively loud music.
Excessive talking is annoying. You want them to pass a law where people can't talk while driving because they should be focused on driving?
Do you even think before you be saying bs?
Re: Your update. No one is taking away your right to listen to music. Just keep the volume down.
One of my neighbor's kids has a stereo in his car that I can hear go by when I am in my living room with the windows down. I want to pass one of those laws too.
It is a crazy law. But on the other hand. If people wouldn’t drive around with outrageous sound systems and rattle the neighborhood windows. That law would have never been thought of.
It's about control and taking money away from the people. Florida is the only state that has this bs law going into effect July 1st.
Georgia has had a similar law for decades.
Most locales have sound nuisance laws.
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy. I understand what you are saying. But in my younger days. We were taught to respect other people. Loud exhaust and loud music wasn’t allowed either in those times. But most people didn’t go around rattling peoples windows with so much noise you couldn’t hear your own tv in your house!
How would you like to be awakened in the middle of the night by your neighbors making loud noises? Every night!
@BillyBalls yea i think florida might have been one of the ONLY states without this lol
There is but one freedom that is absolute and it's thought. All other freedoms are not absolute, including expression. Your freedoms end when they curtail others'.
@exitseven
Where is the evidence of this?
I don’t like that either I used to have a boombox with 12 inch kickers in my truck and 1000 wats amplifier
Florida low key tripping. Trying squeeze any little dollar out of people
Total old people move. Theyre a powerful lobby.
Lunch is now at 9am and dinner the night before.
Whaaaa?
You mean breakfast the night before. Lol
@Jamie05rhs whatever whippersnapper. Its youngins like you ruining this country. Now get off my lawn.
If you talk about those ghetto assholes that blast "music" as they drive, they need to be ticketed and towed.
Could be anyone that's enjoying themselves with music. Don't like it then move your car away or put your car windows up.
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy. Wrong. You have no right to impose your loud-ass-shit on everyone else.
No one has the right to impose their disgusting body odor on someone else or on me. I don't like that smell so I move away. Simple..
I can hear shit a lot further away than I can smell shit.
Too bad. If it was California you would be saying liberals just like to control people's lives.
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy. It's about basic respect. If you have to have your car stereo blasting to get attention, you will get both good and bad attention. When you have an infant sleeping in a car or it's 2:30 and some asshole is bumping loud ass shit, it is ride as fuck. Come on man, you are better mannered than that.
Residential area late at night makes sense, but not riding through the main busy streets. Young people like to have fun and listen to loud music.
lots of places have laws against loud music, i don't even know why we let car speakers go that loud it's bad for your ears
Out of 50 states, show me what states has a actual law enforcing how loud car music can be? Florida is the only one doing this bs.
all of them, it's called "disturbing the peace"
No. Disturbing the peace is when you are starting a fight out in public, destroying public property or making outrageous loud noise within your home that is bothering the neighbors.
Nothing about a car driving by playing loud music.
what's the difference in bothering the neighbors at home vs in a car?
Obviously the house can't move, you can move your damn car ahead or make a turn if the noise is bothering you.
right so annoying people with your car is still just as bad
"i don't even know why we let car speakers go that loud"
@007kingifrit They aren't made that way. They are aftermarket parts.
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy The house can't move in either situation.
I can see why people like it but this sounds like a cash grab to me. This isn't surprising at all considering this is the police we are talking about.
It's the damn politicians in the state who passed this bs into law.
Bit of an odd thing to focus on but sounds good. It's something I regulate in my car as I don't like it from others.
Lol. I mean, I love loud music, too. But there is a point at which it becomes excessive.
The Gov doesn't like that noise that people call music
I use the term “rap noise” all the time.
It's like smoking.
Your right to smoke stops at the tip of my nose.
I love this new law. I’m tired of hearing other peoples mysic blast in my ear. I will be reporting drivers when I see them with their subs and stuff.
People like you is how freedoms are lost.
Yup, I’m also anti gun, anti abortion
I’d say its a good thing. Its obnoxious when people have their music too loud
Well too bad. It's obnoxious when people stink around me.
You want a law to make it illegal or regulate how should someone smell too?
Absolutely. There should be a fine for people who have body odor. Its public indecency
You can't determine what feels good or bad to someone. Geez, y'all are some stupid folks on here.
Lmfaooooo Florida is wild💀
And getting stupid and controlling.
If it wasn't for my family I would have leave.
Very out of control. I dont recall them being this worried about covid being deadly when it initially hit yet they're worried about car music levels? 😕 a little backwards
I can understand a residential area especially late at night but music that can heard from 25 feet away is beyond ridiculous. That's literally 2 cars back or 2 cars ahead.
Voting definitely matters.
*can be heard
i'm curious do they say how loud is too loud
The wackest law I've ever seen in my life.
it doesn't really sound THAT strange of a law at all
Wow really
It's crazy and worse its only 25 feet away which is basically about 2 cars back or 2 ahead. I expect this garbage like in China or North Korea but not America.
