Only if they actually do strenuous labor or provide excellent service. In my town we have a grocery chain that has baggers take your groceries out to your car if you have a cartful. Trust I can fill that puppy up. But if it's something like a barista, no. I have before but they always want you to tip ahead of time. I still got a crappy drink.

As a nice thing you can do? Sure.

As a standardized practice? Absolutely not. Tipping is an evil and only relevant to the extent that an employer has no faith in the employee.

Include a real salary in the cost to start with. Compete with that. I am always insanely shocked the times I am in a country that adds more cost after a price tag. Like... the hell people? How did that become an accepted norm? Tell me the cost upfront and we can figure out a price point we're both happy at.

to be honest, I'd rather tip mostly the chef... the server just ensures we are happy to come back next time... the employer should tip them.

I only tip if the service is good. If the service is only mediocre or some times pretty much non existent? Lousy or no tip.

I believe in tipping for actual service, like being waited on at a restaurant. But I think it is ridiculous to expect a tip for handing someone a doughnut.

It's not common in Europe, but I would tip them if the service was very good, or if I were very rich and liked the service.
