What I cannot stand is entitlement. People feeling they're entitled to being tipped while also providing piss poor service ain’t getting a penny from me. I’ll write on the tip line a tip though on how to be better at their jobs. But that’s about as far as I’ll go.
Some people only have enough money to take their kids to eat once in a while. I get that people work hard making minimum wage. If someone’s great I’ll tip them high. But if they provide the bare minimum they’re getting the bare minimum. A couple bucks maybe and if they are terrible nothing at all.
At the end of the day. Their job is to be professional and sometimes interview questions of service and other jobs that get tips is “how would you treat a customer who is a low or no tipper” and they are looking for you to say. That it’s your job to provide excellent customer service regardless.
Maybe if people would loose the entitled attitude they would get more tips. Some people just don’t tip. It’s who they are even if they have money. Complaining about it isn’t going to make it any better.
I have a brother who works at dominoes and understands how tipping works. He would explain this way better than me lol, but basically the workers get paid pretty low, so tips are a big part of their paycheck. I dont really like the tipping system, i wish the employees would get paid enough so that you dont get frowned upon when you dont tip.
I personally would tip (low) if the person does their job okay/well. If the person goes above and beyond (like with waiters being nice and other things) id tip them higher. Only time i wouldn't tip is if someone is not doing their job well. Although tbf, I've never had the experience to tip/not tip💀
Typically, I'd tip (15 or 18 percent) on the amount before taxes for services provided to me if I was seated and my order was served to me at my table.
I don't usually do that if I waited standing and walked up to the pick up area for whatever I bought.
If I received noticeably remarkable service with an uplifting attitude and a smile, I would tip a bit.
I don’t tip. There’s no tipping culture in South Korea but it’s massive in Canada. It’s not my personal issue to deal with employers not paying their employees fairly. And in my mind, if you feel like you’re not being compensated correctly for the work you do, quit. Simple as that. I cannot understand why I have to tip someone to literally do their job.
Tipping culture has indeed evolved significantly in recent years. Many feel it's expanded beyond traditional settings like restaurants and into places like coffee shops, where tipping isn't always customary. Tipping is a terrible custom that should be abolished. They should charge enough for the product so that they can pay the employee what they're worth and the customer who is trying to relax when they buy a cup of coffee or they're in a restaurant shouldn't have to worry about figuring out a tip and even maybe being humiliated because the server thinks they didn't tip enough. It's just inappropriate.
Service jobs should be like any other job. Employer and employee agree on a certain wage and that's what they're paid. The customer shouldn't have to be involved in that relationship.
The customer will indirectly be tipping anyway since they'll have to raise the price of the product to pay for the Lost tips, but at least they won't be on the spot while they're trying to relax.
Product prices are actually too high, they need to be lowered substancially while still raising worker pay.
The issue is corporate greed, not cheap goods.
Why don't you put your money where your mouth is and open up a coffee shop chain and charge less than everyone else while paying your workers more than everyone else?
I don't like coffee though, it tastes like muddy water.
I am planning to open a store eventually though, just not a coffee shop.

So I just want to add something that should be common sense but isn't.
When you increase prices while also increasing wages, you end up back where you started, making both pointless.
Higher wages only matter if prices don't increase. Otherwise you're still putting in the same amount of hours for the same amount of tangible rewards, just with bigger numbers arbitrarily attached to both.
That is a fractured analysis, but your conclusion that your plan is pointless is right.
If you want to donate to charity, and pay people more than the value they return to you, you can do that without starting a business.
I never said my plan is pointless (it isn't), I said raising wages while also raising the prices on goods and services is pointless.
If you want to afford things more easily, the answer is not better pay, its better pricing.
$10 an hour and $20 an hour are the same exact thing if prices on stuff you spend that money on also get doubled.
Hubby and I only tip those who actually go far out and beyond.
our cleaning ladies hadn’t ask for a raise so we gave them a raise and gave them a big tip for the holiday.
we tipped more for our masseuses last week when they helped us feel better.

Tipping is stupid. We should get rid of it entirely. What a weird culture for corpos to underpay servers and have customers make up the difference in paying their salaries.

What!! I never knew that! How did you find out they get free drinks? I wonder if they get free food too? I thought about working there too just for the social aspect. Seems like a fun place to work, yet with the tipping policies, it sounds like they aren't getting paid enough or the owner is pocketing those tips

No. Having a little question pop up on card processing machines at the register isn't exactly high pressure. If you don't want to tip, then just don't tip. I have never tipped at Starbucks and I don't plan on ever starting.
A tip is a voluntary financial gesture made by an appreciative customer for services rendered above and beyond the anticipated quality.
Any service worker should not have to rely on tips to bring their earnings up to a liveable level, Employers rely on customers to subsidise their payrolls through the tips their customers leave for the staff.
As for tipping Starbucks the answer would be NO, because I've never patronised any of their sites.
Absolutely out of hand. I don't order out or eat out hardly anymore over how demanding food workers are in regards to tips. It's just unaffordable now. I've given fair tips and gotten insulted by begrudging delivery drivers and waiting staff. 20% is already too high. No thanks.
Its out of control, i prefer the german method where if they can't pay there workers a decent wage, they shouldn't be in business. They do their job the same as every other person. Tips are for servers, bartenders, porters, drivers barbers, etc. fast food isn’t tip worthy

In my whole life I've only ever been called out by a worker once for not tipping. I paid for the pizza, got my takeout order and as soon as I left the store I threw the pizza in the trash.
I was in college and had almost no money. The women behind the counter seemed so pissed off I worried she might have spit on the pizza.

Most people around here do not tip. Its not our job to cover the worker's paycheck, thats the employer's job, they are supposed to use enough of the money earned selling product to give fair wages.
Yes, a new takeout place opened up. I ordered on line and went to pick up my food. A kid picked up the bag and handed it to me. For this enormous task he expected a handsome tip.

Bar staff want tips for pouring pints, now. Restaurants suggest 13%+ gratuities. I'm not a fan.
If im dining in I don't mind tipping restaurants as they are actually putting in work. But drive thrus and bars it's just ridiculous when they aren't doing anything.

Restaurants are where tips have always been expected for excellent, or even just good service (in the UK 10% and Germany, "drink money", at least). If you can't pour a good beer, you don't belong behind a bar; if you make good cocktails, the bar earns enough to pay you accordingly, without tips.

I dont know if you're from the UK but I've heard that UK does not have this problem either. And yes , the US doesn't pay their workers a living wage so they expect customers to fill the gap despite having a billionaire owner.

I've never spent a penny at Starbucks. They gave me a couple free coffees over the years which I think were very low quality.

Starbucks, Chinese takeout, and any restaurant takeout are paid to cook and prepare food their job. they are not serving it to a table cleaning between courses etc. There is no tip. Tipping is out of hand and needs to be trimmed back
Nowadays, there are suggested tip amounts at the bottom of restaurant bills. You don’t have to follow those suggestions. In fact, you shouldn’t. Add 15% or whatever you want on the subtotal before taxes.

There is no tipping culture in my country, but even if there was, I don't think we would give it. Because my country has been going through a big economic crisis lately. But if I evaluate it objectively, it is a pretty good culture.

There are some states that allow restaurants to pay waitresses and waiters below minimum wage, so I always tip them. The only other people I usually tip is bartenders. I rarely ever go to Starbucks and I work right next door to one. I might go in there to buy some homeless person a snack.

If I sit down and I am served, I tip the server. Other than that, I am not required to subsidize the low wages of the workers, and I don't.

If you have only poured coffee into a cup there is no tip involved. I run a tanning salon, I don’t expect a tip for doing my job. Food servers in restaurants rely on tips to make up the difference in their wages. Pouring coffee pays well.
