I always tip if I can afford it. It’s not like I’m starving. It’s just a tiny sacrifice, like maybe I have to buy a regular coffee cause my tip money went towards the latte. Or maybe I have to eat oatmeal cause I ran out of money for lentils etc…
I think its best if workers get paid a reasonable wage they can live on, and if the customer is generous and statisfied enough a little bit extra is really good.
I'm from the United States.
Tipping sucks and I want it to end.
why, do you think that
There could be (and are) books written about this.
First, it's a terrible way to pay employees. In the wage is VERY low and tips are expected to be part of the employees earnings. It's not actually a tip. Which leads to the second point:
Second, it's then incumbent upon me to pay the employee. A tip no longer becomes my recognition for great service, it becomes some sort of expectation.
It's a flawed system.
I'm not saying get rid of all tipping, just the part where it's part of earnings.
