I've been on both sides of this issue: I've been an illegal and legal immigrant. I entered legally but overstayed my welcome for 12 years. I've seen the struggles or immigrants not being able to get better jobs and some do work for minimum wage. But i'll also say some are paid cash and don't claim any taxes. Others do pay taxes with an ITIN number that is given to them when requested so some are doing their part. Before the caravans came, illegal immigrants couldn't get any government help, like food stamps, government housing like section 8 or even apply for a credit card. When Biden was in office and let the new immigrants in, it felt like a slap in the face because they were given all this aid for free but the majority of us who had been working our butts off for decades got squat. "YOU DONT MATTER" is what it felt like. So many undocumented people, the majority of being Mexican got bullied by the central and south Americans that came in. SOME in these groups would say things such as, "thank goodness I'm not Mexican so I could get a green card", "I don't understand why these dumb Mexicans work so much for so little? It's good that Papa Biden is helping us out" and similar things. So of course this fueled hatred from the Mexicans towards the Venezuelans. Now with Trump deporting many of them, the Mexicans are making fun of the Venezuelans and stating they rather be poor and hardworking than spoiled and entitled. Also, the Venezuelans say similar things when they go through Mexico and other countries, usually not wanting to eat the free food that nonprofits offer them or complaining about the free housing they get. In return this has made other countries dislike them as well, including Colombia, Peru and Argentina among others.
Now as a legal immigrant I'm starting to see some of the problems illegal immigration causes. I can't disagree that paying a lower wage to an immigrant doesn't negatively impact the wage of Americans, but I will say that I would like my people to become legal so they can also have a better wage. If we continue to allow illegal immigration, then no one will have a fair wage. So, create guest workers programs like in the 50s and 60s. I don't understand why we did away with them. My grandpa would come to the states during those decades and loved it. It allowed him to make enough for the entire year to support his family in Mexico and then he'd go back half a year and be with our family. I'm sure some companies, and even the government are somehow profiting from illegal immigration, otherwise these programs would still be in place. That's just the first problem.
The second problem is how the cartels use illegal immigration to sneak in women and children for sex trafficking. That truly disgusts me. If you can have the masses come in, how can you not use that for ulterior motives? (Child trafficking). I also saw how criminals would pretend they just came here for work but then they're stealing things from people and even started a turf war in Chicago with a local gang. So now even the gang members are against illegal immigration bc they're stealing their customers.
Now let's be clear. I don't care whose feelings I hurt when I say this: Illegal immigrants usually perform jobs most legal immigrants and residents don't want to do. Not saying no one wants to do them, but most don't. I've seen it firsthand. I barely saw any Americans applying for jobs there were paid below or at minimum wage and demanded hard labor.
The funny thing about brexiteers/ukip/reform is when questioned by reporters It's never about race, but when they're mouthing off down the pub the racist slurs come thick and fast.
Immigration hasn't been a big issue near me, we haven't had the numbers that parts of England have had. That hasn't stopped a few expressing some colourful views despite never actually seeing an Immigant outside of a daily mail photograph.
The only immigrants who cause trouble are the English ones who buy up houses to rent out as holidayhomes.
@goaded... hesitatnt... I dont get it. But I feel like I should.
@purplepoppy yeah either uk or us, rightists always have prepared statements that get debunked and then they open up and aay "I'm tired of all the brown people at the market."
@OddBeMe there used to be a terrorist organisation called Meibion Glyndŵr in the 80s that went around north Wales burning down English owned homes. The video comes from a comedy show at the time which links it to an advertising slogan for home fireplaces that was been shown at the time, the two have been linked ever-since. You will still see news stories of homes sprayed painted with "English go home" but that's usually because the occupant is a twat rather than English.
Yeah, so as a nativeTexan this is a huge problem. You see we got a buncha people from other states that went and watched that "Alamo" movie, got liquored up, and figured they could move downn here and just run around like Yosemite Sam, bitchin' and squealing about all the shit that they just KNOW John Wayne wouldn't put up with.
Here's the deal. My friends the Mexicans and Bolivians and all the flavors of Spanish speakers that occur here in the AmericaS were here before you, we were drinking tequila and cerveza and dancing together long before YOU came. You enjoy the culture, all the "Dia de los Muertos" stuff, and pinatas and ponchos and sombreros. You love the cuisine, BUT all of those people are rapists, drug dealers etc etc etc., but they're lazy and will cheat their way onto welfare rolls while simultaneously taking YOUR job. Sounds like propaganda to me. Vermin? Not my friends, far from it. There is a lot to learn from them.
There have always been teen boys complaining about "wetbacks" and saying we should secede, and they generally got clapped on the ear and told to hush with the stupidity, but we live in ugly times... ugly
Me personally? Depresses wages in the industries I work in. Have had multiple people tell me they'd never hire my company which charges competitive prices because they could "just hire a mexican to do it." Illegal immigrant when I was in HS killed a kid that I didn't know personally, but played football against. Hurt his family a lot I presume. Taxes, illegal immigrants drain government resources that needn't be, thus is reflected in the national debt and my tax rates presumably.

The "immigration issue" is only about white man insecurities. Point blank.
Boom
Well, I married a legal European immigrant (Italian). Had two sons with her. Hard working and wouldn't hurt a fly. Didn't work out but her family were / are good people.
here in Germany, the stupid immigration policy made this place much more dangerous...
I respect Merkel for respecting the constitution, though.
"It is because of the demographics," claims Dr Dominic Kudlacek, from the Criminological Research Unit of Lower Saxony. "Whether they're asylum seekers or EU migrants, they are younger than the average population and mostly male. Young men commit more crimes in every society."
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-45419466
@goaded they could commit them in their home country... it's not safe anymore... I don't think anyone can reason it...
immigrants rarely work, they don't assimilate and government pays them stupid amount of money, so they dont even have motivation to do anything more than roaming the streets and commit crimes... government ensures decent living conditions, schools and Ausbildung... but they still rarely work...
Merkel pushed too far too fast neglecting reunification issues leading to afd & backlash against Turks & Polish plumbers
Well, I'm an immigrant... It has its ups and downs. The people who have most negatively affected my family (to the tune of tens of thousands of Euros) were both white Germans. I don't think I've negatively affected anyone.
Most of my friends are immigrants, most are now citizens and the rest long since left the country to go back home. We got some Portuguese people I met that give me good deals on fish
I have to pay 350 dollars for a dump sticker next year because the state had to spend 1.5 billion dollars on illegals and could not send money back to the towns.
Brexit was the 2nd most successful Putin intervention in an election. Tony Blair & his WMD stupidity should rot along side David Cameron for his oversized ego. Two fools for a USA POTUS.
I hired an illegal crew on my construction project. No locals even applied. That goes against my narrative, but there you are.
@goaded seems like a roundabout way of getting to the same objective then. I believe we should deport the people illegally here, and shore up security to prevent more from making their way in. You want to punish US citizens enough to hope that illegals will stop coming here? Seems a lot more difficult to me. Plus so long as we feed, clothe and shelter them people will continue to come whether or not there are jobs. Look at New York putting illegals up in 5 star hotels.
@Ladsin2 If I could, I would, but: "While a few upscale hotels such as the Roosevelt have been converted to shelter migrants, the majority are housed in more affordable establishments, and none in five-star hotels." wisconsinwatch.org/.../
The advantage of targetting the employers is that they've got money and they can't disappear. Asylum seekers, like the hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans, can and were given permission to work until Trump took it away. Temporary something status. Like the "pet-eating" Somalis.
Why do you think the right can't win any arguments based on nothing but the facts, without making stuff up?
You make a good point for doge to completely disband the department of immigration. Why do we need them?
I live in Texas and I would be lead to believe I can't walk down the street to the grocery store without bumping into 5 illegal immigrants every time. I don't think I've ever seen one.
did you just call me an IMMIGR? that actually sounds okay by me.
Aside from a whole melting pot of friends nothing
I have no problem with migration just the smugglers that should be executed
Ask people in major cities like NY and Chicago. It got so bad that even Eric Adams has turned around on the issue.
Ask the people who had Venezuelan illegals form gangs that took over their apartments and enslaved them.
The mayor who's about to be let off his corruption charges as long as he supports Trump's policies? Sorry to break this to you, but the judge looks like they're going to either remove the leverage Trump wants or show everyone the evidence against him. Maybe both.

@goaded I don't know enough about him to see how that's relevant. All I know is that he seemed to have changed his mind on the matter.
All I know is that he changed his stance on it. I don't know the details about this case.
Quick precis: Eric Adams was (allegedly!) corrupt as hell, he was indicted by the Biden DoJ, but then the Trump DoJ wanted to dismiss the charges without prejudice (meaning they could be brought again at any time), not because they thought he was innocent, or even that they couldn't prove it, but because they would then have leverage over him to get him to implement Trump policies.
The judge wouldn't wear it and ordered an independent lawyer to make counter arguments (since both defence and prosecution were suddenly on the same side). The lawyer recommended that the case be dismissed (because the prosecution weren't going to try) but WITH prejudice (meaning he'd be home free and there's no leverage any more).
I think the judge still has to make up their mind.
Another case of Trump letting a guilty man go free. Just like the Jan 6 rioters and a couple of his millionaire buddies just this week.
It hasn’t affected me in any shape or form therefore I don’t have the sick desire to uproot someone’s life and break up their family.
It hasn't impacted me in any meaningful way.
All the gang rapes. I live in germany and it's just not safe to be a woman anymore
I did move out of the USA
