Without a warrant, probable cause, or jurisdiction, ICE arrested Mahmoud Khalil for things he'd said. It doesn't matter if you agree with him or not, this is illegal and a test of how far Trump will be allowed to go.

These are the ways you can lose your green card (Permanent Resident Status)

Fraud and Willful Misrepresentation
Criminal Convictions
Failing to Remove Conditions on Residence

That's false. There are additional ways to lose your green card.

Mahmoud Khalil's words and deeds may have violated this statute. I am not informed enough to make a judgment as to that. However, he needs due process to be convicted of this and then, upon conviction, he should lose his permanent residency.

So, as shown in this statute, the "freedom of speech" only goes so far.

If Mahmoud Khalil vocally supports HAMAS, a Federally identified terrorist organization, then he's violated this statute. For example, here is the State Department's list which includes HAMAS since October 1997.

Its a bit anecdotal, so I am going to broaden a bit to the more broader anti-semitism countering trend. For me punishing for beliefs goes to far and goes against the first amendment. So I am principally against any kind of punishment for beliefs or civil activism. The whole "Lets revoke greencards of people who support hamas" goes way to far and I say that as someone who distances himself from that whole conflict so I am neither pro Palestine or pro Israel I just don't want to spend any time on such a complicated issue that has nothing to do with me with no obvious solutions.

People are criticizing trump and RFK over this and in my opinion rightfully so. This is the kind of authoritarian nonsense I don't want to see.

Ice locked up a British woman for 11 days without a change of clothes because of minor visa mix up. Apparently if you stay with friends and help with the dishes it counts as work.

The advice to visitors now is America is being ultra strict on interpretating the rules and even the slightest error will see you arrested. It seems to me that anyone with a green card should tred carefully because they're just waiting for the excuse to chain you up.

ICE operates under immigration law, not as Trump’s personal “goons.” If Mahmoud Khalil was truly arrested without cause, that would be a legal violation—but does the article provide any actual proof that he wasn’t violating immigration laws or other legal conditions? If you have a source that confirms his arrest was purely for speech, I’d be interested in seeing it.
