VAN and Workbench in BIKE LANE, Okay or Not?

A bicyclist found a van and a workbench blocking the bike lane.

Is this okay? Should something be done about it?

Since when have cyclists ever used a bike lane? Even if they're available they just ride on the road and cause 5 mile tailbacks. Only time they use the bike lanes is when they want to film stuff like this to stick on YouTube.

To me, completely blocking the bike lane is NOT okay.

Unless the worker is a city employee or contractor assigned to work on the bike lane itself, I would consider that inconsiderate.

My understanding is a bike lane is absolute " No Standing " , certainly in Australia , so there is absolutely no excuse for stopping in a bike lane , its total ignorance , I'm not sure about USA , he should be heavily fined.

And if it were on the sidewalk they would complain about that. I have never seen a construction zone where something or other wasn't blocked. That's life in the city. Get over it.

Do you have rules on such? Can people get fined for doing it? Here in Sweden! The police might show up and ask you nicely to move and park somewhere appropriate for a van

i guess it is, if that was the best option at the time. but if there are better places, then it’d be better to not get in the way of bikersss🫶 im sure the driver is aware of thisss💕

Should definitely get a ticket, considering cyclists have been issued tickets for not riding in the bike lane when there were obstacles on it.

That should NOT be allowed. The bike lanes are made to keep cyclists somewhat safe while riding in busy areas especially.

Here it is ok, providing you got an authorisation from the mayor.

The town hall will put signposts 2 or 3 days before.

@Twalli In my town, it's illegal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk. Sidewalks are for pedestrians only. I know some people who have been ticketed and fined for riding on the sidewalk.

Oh, people ride on the sidewalks pretty often around here. We do have a park nearby with good paved trails, so maybe that's why it isn't illegal.

I used to be a cyclist and I'm a biker now. I've been known to take action when I see this type of stupidity. The sound of a workbench being tipped over followed by the removal of a wing mirror tends to discourage such stupidity being repeated.
