Who is looking forward to CRISPR gene editing?

It is basically a procedure currently in the works (with some proven success) to edit your genes which will enable you to thwart chronic health issues, make you stronger, faster, improve IQ and even your looks from within. It will eventually be a painless procedure and will turn you into a genetic specimen. Kinda cool right? It will be mainstream in a decade or two according to all current datapoints.

I dont think increasing IQ is a good idea. You'll get a Bioshock situation where Andrew Ryan only wanted the strong and smart to live in his underwater city. Everyone was smart and no one wanted to work the lower skilled jobs and eventually they build technology to kill each other and they all killed one another.

And CRISPR is already out. You can choose an embryo that won't develop mental illnesses or will have a higher chance of happiness. But intelligence they don't let choose that. But I am sure some rich people pay under the table for it.

I think it'll all be allowed eventually. And there will be a "higher breed"/"lower breed" of humanity. A group of humans who got all the beneficial CRISPR and the ones who don't.

This shit should be banned immediately, the consequences to our species evolution could be completely disastrous. Our species is evolved for millions of years by natural selection and genetic diversity. To take all that and just throw it away and start altering the basic building blocks of our existence is very stupid and extremely short-sighted.

It'll affect you. You'll get its effects slowly on your body. Yes, you'll be able to do a lot even after your body has fully developed.

It will widen the gap between haves and have nots. Those from poverty will never be able to afford this and will fall further without a means to compete. Sounds cool but the social ramifications are what I fear.

Yes. You will be able to edit it even as an adult

Yes. It will take effect within a span of a few weeks/months. For example, a lot of chronic diseases will be gone permanently. You could tweak your body to crank up metabolism to lose fat faster and build muscle easier, improve physical capabilities, intelligence and so on.

improving your IQ won't be as simple as editing a gene. you're going to have to have hundreds of human test subjects to see what goes wrong. this will almost certainly never be commercially available for vanity purposes.
