Why did Trump start a trade war with Canada?

I understand fentanyl comes from China and then it's synthesized in Mexico. But why a trade war with Canada? There's no boarder problems with Canada. It just doesn't make any sense.

Trump always operated by threatening big action to get his negotations and policies through.

His first term this worked reasonably well. Most countries were willing to be forced and bullied into an unfair loss rather than provoke USA.

His second term, the world is fed up with his highschool bullying attempts. Like anyone not taken seriously he is acting out. Thean has started and cancelled like six trade wars already. He is literally just shaking the tree and seeing if any goodies fall out of it.

Quite frankly given his, unique level of, ability and a timeframe of not caring about anything that happens longterm, his actions make plenty of sense.

Because God Emperor Trump in his childish hubris decided the best way to intimidate adversaries is to piss on former friends and turn them on adversaries too.
Tariffs isn't really a problem because they are always mutual but Trump has the sadistic tendency to humiliate and to communicate on very hostile level with other countries and opposition.

He wants to annex Canada, absorb it into the United States. That's his goal. He has said that numerous times. Canada has resources he wants and he's trying to break Canada economically. At the same time he's trying to bum eggs from Finland. I don't know how he intends to make all this work, isolating the United States from worldwide trade when it is currently incapable of manufacturing and producing everything it needs at home. The U. S. isn't set up to be this manufacturing powerhouse like it was in WW2. Not even close. It hasn't been for decades. Maybe the Russians will give him some eggs.
