Well as we saw with antifa and the blm riots the last few years the reason these middle class college students do it is because there are never any real serious criminal consequences. The idea of having it made an act of terrorism is to discourage future attacks and that is correct because at the end of the day what these attacks are doing is

1. Occupying emergency services that may be needed elsewhere putting lives at risk

2. Damaging the road which taxpayers will have to pay to repair.

3. Putting lives at risk. Imagine a tesla set on fire is in somebody's driveway. Maybe the house catches fire burning a family to death.

4. A lot of US jobs depend on tesla sales. People may be afraid to buy one if they think they will be targeted.

5. The environmental damage

6. It drives the car& house insurance costs of EVs up.

7. Sets a new normal that if people don't others religion, political beliefs, race etc they will start targeting them with violence, doxing and arson. Is the burning tesla the new kkk burning cross?

There is also the possibility that a lot of tesla owners are setting them on fire themselves to get the insurance money. Teslas and other EVs are very difficult to get rid of because they have a 3 year shelf life and nobody is buying a second hand EV. You would have trouble giving a old tesla away and it costs you to scrap them.
