I believe we are on the verge of an extremely dangerous totalitarian big-tech oligarchy.

By the end of this year, AI advancements are projected to be so good they will replace mid-level software engineers. Whatever can be automated will be automated.

Here are some concerns:

1. Societal value as an individual for most will likely level out or decrease, and opportunities to gain higher or unique statusus among peers will fade.
2. Many who thrive on possessing a distinguishable hard skillset will be impacted
3. Societal value as an individual will grow based upon soft skills, socioemotional skills, and roles that rely on such. Those with deficits in these may struggle to find their niche and footing among those who possess these traits.
4. Human resources may still be needed, but may be more valued collectively than individually
5. The gap will widen between the elite and everyone else, paving the way towards oligarchy
6. Negotiating power as an individual will decrease, and individual employees will be much more disposable.

AI entrepreneurs have spoken about universal income, but these are handouts that we will be reliant on, thus giving more power to the hands that feed us. Imagine if we strayed from their rules? Could this income be reduced or eliminated? Is there a likelihood we will have some social credit system?

If you thought this was bad, it gets nightmarishly WORSE! We also have nanotechnology advancements. Coupled with AI, this becomes much more dangerous. Imagine AI controlled nanobots being released into our water supply and we consume them. Could this open doors for technological terrorism? If we were to displease our rulers, could they decide to end our lives with a click of a button?

Interesting thing to think about. We had the bronze age (2,000 years), the iron age (700 years), the industrial age (200 years), the information age (50 years), the internet age (35 years), and now AI. See a pattern there? Maybe accelerating technological change?

But all of that stuff prior to AI was just better dumb tools. They made people more productive but they didn't replace people completely. For the most part they simply wiped out jobs that were manual labor and replaced them with fewer, better paying jobs. But a constantly growing economy meant there were still more jobs than qualified people for the most part.

AI is potentially different. It could wipe out huge swaths of employment across the economy broadly at the same time. There are about 8.4 billion people on this planet. What happens when 7 billion are sitting around starving with their thumb up their ass? Ever hear of the French Revolution? Russian Revolution? That's what happens.

And we can't grow our way out of our problem this time. The planet is saturated and the drop off in employment is potentially too huge to compensate for with growth.

And sociologically, people haven't changed much since the bronze age. The rich still want it all. We are still stupid and violent as a species. So yes, the owners of the AI assets (Capitalists) will absolutely try to take it all. And they will absolutely be dragged from their mansions by an angry populace when the imbalance reaches an existential point.

Your post is 8 hours old. If you wanted more responses, you should have praised Trump. Nobody wants to face this. I was trained to understand and engage a potential enemy. AI is one. Trump's new CIA should be looking at this. And they should be talking to ELON MUSK.

Here's the thing, advances in AI has opened Pandora box. Now we are at the point of no return, because if we refuse to jump aboard the AI bandwagon, our adversaries will. It is just a race towards inevitable destruction.

It may take the formation of isolating communities like Amish and Mennonites for those who want to stay off the grid and out of it. More rural subsistence living off the grid. Like the Old West. It won't stop "them" from coming for us but we would have to have nothing they want.

Modern medicine would disappear for pioneers and out mortality rate would plummet. We would Have to establish our own domestic electricity sources. Maybe between now and Armageddon, we would have to come up with small local electricity generators that are unconnected with the grid and are able to operate with available energy sources.

Its not a matter of when AI Armageddon happens but how we handle it and still survive.

I am beginning to think the solution will have to come down to a global electrical shutdown. We may have to return to the stone ages to stop it. I was thinking of a global electromagnetic disruption, but there are such a thing as EMP protectors. Ultimately at the most basic level, computerized technology relies on electricity. You remove electricity, computers do not operate. But I wonder. if it may have devastating implications, for example, nuclear cooling technology will stop, resulting in a nuclear meltdown.

For sure, it will displace so many workers. It will disrupt the job market, potentially greater than the industrial revolution. What can be automated will be automated. I feel jobs that. involve greater dexterity (and lot of blue collar jobs that work with hands) and jobs that require a great deal of emotional intelligence will be safe, at least for the short term.

I am building a machine/server to run open source AI models locally. I want to sandbox my AI models. I refuse to use vendor models. Not that they need my data anyways because they are supplied with enough, but morally I don't feel right consuming outside vendor AI solutions.
