5.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I have what I call 1960s-'70s liberal values. I voted Democrat from 1972 until Bill Clinton ran for his second term. Then I voted independent until I got fooled and enthusiastically voted for Mr. Hope and Change. When he ran for a second term, I went back to voting independent as a protest against both parties.
The only time in my life that I voted for a Republican presidential candidate was in 2020 and 2024 in an effort to keep the Democrats out of office.
Because of my political leanings, most of my friends were liberals beginning in 2002. They were great.
But the Democratic party became completely evil by 2016 and most liberals adopted all the woke and neoliberal policies promoted by the party.
By then, I was thinking for myself, rejecting political partisanship, and ignoring popular consensus. The brighter of my liberal friends had done the same thing.
But most of my liberal friends started treating like a conservative when I didn't march in lockstep with Democratic party policies and woke ideology. Many of them abandoned me completely and treated me like the enemy.
At the same time, I started meeting more people who identified as conservative.
Even though my values hadn't changed since the 1970s, I found that many conservatives shared many of my values.
Plus, they were much more tolerant and less strident, judgmental, and confrontational than the modern Democrats/liberals. They are much more laid back and easy to get along with. It's even possible to discuss political issues without them getting their panties in a knot.
I have quite a few Republican and Democrat friends. Their party affiliation doesn't bother me. My closest friends, though, are those who don't have herd mentality and who reject partisan loyalty.15 Reply- 1 y
@exitseven. Haha. I see what you mean. But I don't think so. The big difference between me and my conservative friends is our outlook toward economic issues. But there are different kinds of conservatives and different kinds of liberals. There are cool people and there are ass holes on both sides. I wonder how some liberals got so fucked up, too.
I think it has to do with a person's upbringing, where they grew up, and their life experiences. - 1 y
I have a cousin that is a real moonbat liberal. He grew up in New York and his parents were pretty affluent. He was a real anti war, save the planet liberal. That is until he bought a condo across the street from Central Park. He used to have to deal with a horde of homeless people every time he left his home. He wants to get a pellet gun and pick them off from his balcony.

@exitseven. That's what he gets for living in NYC. LOL. Now he wants to be a vigilante? Good luck picking off every homeless person in the neighborhood. Wow. Does he wonder how they became homeless or think about their humanity while he's living the good life?

Nazi cults like yours are unpopular in 2025. You would have had better success in the 1930s and early 1940s.

@supercutebutt See , you are why I would be not be friends with a democrat. We have had a lot of discourse in the last few years. I have treated you with respect and here you are calling me a Nazi.

Well, you do love the MAGA autocracy. You love cruelty. You love ethnic cleansing. You do love Elon Musk. You love stealing from the poor and giving to the rich. The only thing you have a problem with is the truth. Are you pushing for a 3rd term of dictator Trump? Tell me true :)
- 1 y
@supercutebutt I support President Trump because of his policies and his effectiveness in his foist term. I believe in everyone paying their taxes. I get fleeced every year, everyone should be paying taxes, rich or poor. I do hate cruelty. Having young women raped and murdered or people being run down by drunk drivers really pisses me off because the perps should not be here in the first place. I will probably be sad to see President Trump go back to his business the way the founders intended. He will not be a career politician. However the constitution and his advanced age will prevent it.
Maybe when he is turning Gaza into an big theme park it will be his legacy. - 1 y
His tariff plan will not work. It is making everyone angry because of the soaring prices. Once he is overthrown, we will have to try and put things back together. He thinks we can go back to the way things were in the late 1700s and early 1800s, when we were a developing nation. Tariffs on everything is what current POOR countries do. We were previously the envy of the world and he ia systematically ruining us. No credible economist supports this dumbfuckery. You keep repeating the bullshit propaganda in a failing effort to save face. You know deep down Trump is a buffoon. But you do like the racism and bigotry.

@supercutebutt I would love to be having sex with you when you’re upset about politics.

@supercutebutt The tariffs worked in Trump's first term. Judging by the companies that are investing mililons to build factories in the US it looks loke it will work again.
Obama was a racist and turned racial relations back 50 years. Trump and MLK would want the same thing. - 1 y
"Obama was a racist." Give me a fucking break, you asshole. All you do is lie. I legitimately hate your guts.
You are blocked forever. I am NEVER unblocking you. Go rot in Hell.
Anonymous(18-24)1 yThat depends... Almosy 20 years ago, the democrat party was being taken over by the far-left wing of the party. Zell Miller, the former governor of Georgia and a democrat, wrote a book in 2003 called " A national Party No More" which talked about the radical factions in his party gaining influence. Now, all of the moderates have been either pushed out, or they just keep their mouths shut to keep their jobs, and their lives. The democrats of 20+ years ago would NEVER support sex changes for small children, putting hardcore porn comic books in elementary schools, forcing girls to undress in front of biological boys, or wide-open borders. They also didn't have an irrational hatred for the American flag and law enforcement. I can be friends with a REAL democrat, but not with these socialists claiming to be democrats.

1 yI hope "swing voters" have seen how transparently evil the democrat party really is by now. They don't even run on issues except giving women more fake rights to murder their own babies.
