I prefer the terms conservative and liberal. I consider myself to be conservative, however I take exception to a good majority of the Republican Party who talks the talk and does not walk the walk. All of them speak well, but when it’s time to vote, they don’t all vote in line with the constituents who elected them, and don’t vote in keeping with conservative values. When it’s time to speak, they remain silent. They are only interested in lining their pockets with special interest money and campaign contributions, and money from lobbyists, and retaining their positions while doing nothing to represent us, and often to the detriment of the nation. These Rhino Republicans I’m speaking of are sell outs and turn coats. In such elections between a liberal candidate and a Rhino Republican I refuse to vote. There is no case of the lesser evil as both options are equally bad.
As a conservative I don’t feel I can be true friends with a liberal, but I can get along with them. Ones politics stem from their values. I see no reason to have friendships with people who value what I detest. They will also likely approach all matters outside of politics with the same value system that dictates their politics. I don’t value what they do. They don’t value what I do. I don’t associate with people I perceive to be of low morals and who I perceive to lack honor and virtue. I also don’t associate with those who either intentionally or passively seek to destroy my country from within and turn it into what it was never meant to be. Who use the freedom of speech and the press, and the other freedoms we have against the nation and to strip it’s people of their rights.
I have gone to war twice for this nation. The present day America is not what I fought to preserve and protect. Considering that, how can I be friends with someone who now fights, not in combat, but with votes and rhetoric to undo what I and so many others sacrificed and suffered for? To count so cheap our sacrifices as to seek to morph America into what we now have or worse?
That's a damn shame to see how things have turned out. But yeah there's a lot of sellout Republicans and I always call them out, for Democrats forget about it I can't even.

Mostly depends on if they're super political or not. I don't tend to get along with people on either extreme the spectrum. I probably get along worse with conservatives/republicans because I've founds that some of their fundamental views clash with mine on like a moral level that I'm not comfortable tolerating/associating with in my space unnecessarily, but it's not like I don't have friends that have differing political views on both sides.

I'm saying I am freinds with two gay republicans and when we differ too much, we drop it. but I work the same way with people who are demos or otherwise. Agree to disagree and drop it. Friendship is more important than politics. We need each other and when someone clicks, that's what's important.
I am a conservative Republican and I dated a liberal Democrat for two years. If she had felt as strongly towards me as I felt towards her, we would now be married.
There are many mutt and jeffs. Have to know where not to step in it. And keep your friendship as the most impt thing... I'm a moderate liberal. I don't like extremes of most kinds. Right before the SCOTUS ruling to push it back to the states... it was a female Democrat and some soyboy looking dude that was pushing it. After 9 months abortion. SCOTUS basically had their hand forced on the decision because the pressure was coming for that and to make taxpayers pay for these abortions. The main reason I don't blame them for what they did.

I find that “the left” likes to appeal to a huge base, but only cater to a mindbogglingly small segment of the population, whereas “the right” has zero class or awareness, so they have less appeal despite just functionally doing more for the average citizen, even if just through incompetent inaction. The less the government touches, the better. Basically a huge portion of the left would actually line up with the right, but reject it solely on optics. Left = caring and good, right = selfish and authoritarian.

I have friendly chats with people on here who have very different political leanings than myself. Most of my "in person" friends share my political leanings (or are moreso in that direction) just by virtue of the fact that there aren't a lot of left-wingers in my field and my friends are former support staff or teammates. Now the uber crazy leftists that just don't have any interest in facts over feelings and I aren't going to get along because largely I don't care about feelings, and never over facts, and there are certain topics that I think legislators largely aren't educated enough to be deciding.
So , I've converted to Australia comparison , as not everyone is from the wonderful US of A. Its Labour ( left ) v Liberal ( right ) , Im Liberal ( Republican ) , I think the friendship is possible as long as they don't sit too far left , so you win Australia in the middle ground , there are extremes but nothing like USA , nor in my opinion should anyone be " rusted on " , now during Covid BS , I did have problem with any number on the left that I had to delete.
Also in the Hawke / Keating years , with some wonderful reforms , I was sitting on the right of the Labour party which did exist then , thanks to the loved Bob Hawke RIP , it no longer exists now.

I've run into many clueless who vote Democrat mindlessly, but aren't totally beyond hope. Them, maybe. I've also met many partisan hacks who have grown increasingly cult-like the more their side gets what it wants, whom I wouldn't trust as far as I could launch from a cannon. That includes many former college classmates; whose backstabbing and douchery were the stuff of legend. I was up there with some real bonafide losers.
I tried to be a friend, in spite of ideological differences. But they made it very clear that if I didn't think like them, I was an "enemy of the state."
I consider myself a progressive, so that leans towards what Dems are doing because Repubs are just regressive. They have no platform, no ideas, no solutions, and just want to re-enact some imaginary utopia from the past. So I have Repub acquaintances, but no one I'd call a real friend. We co-exist by not discussing politics.
Of those acquaintances, none of them are maga-nuts. I can't associate with them, because they're just too whacked. I also can't associate with left-wing extremists either for the same reason.

I just turned 18 and am looking forward to registering to vote. I will be registering as an Independent. I will always vote for the right person... no matter which party. But I will vote for one that cares about our planet and the environment and to preserve everyone's rights to make personal decisions. I have to live on this planet for another 70-80 years (I hope) and want one who will help protect it.
That said in 2024 I will vote for any candidate on either party but Trump!
It's usually the Democrats that cannot be sociable with anyone that doesn't think like they do. I'm conservative and have no problem being friendly with a liberal so long as they don't force their opinions on me.

I've met a lot of frustrated democrats, but those frustrations seem to be grounded in the fact that Republicans are unreachable. This isn't the same as the irrational anger that makes many Republicans unreachable in the first place.
Granted, there are a number of "far left" people I've met that baffle me with their expectations and get mad when they discover no one thought it was important as they were led to believe everyone thought it was. Personally, I have my suspicious of why this happens but the far left hates being accused of getting duped by Russian trolls so I'll keep it to myself..

Their extremism is more in the form of extreme optimism that right wingers would start voting in everyone's best interest if someone would just explain it to them. Republicans are not yanking money from schools, they are implementing school choices because the public schools are failing our kids and want to provide parents with a choice. If the public schools want to be competitive they have to improve their product. In the state I live in there is a standardized test that students need to pass for graduation. It looks like a lot of kids will not be able to pass the test so instead of trying to fix the problem, the teachers union just wants to eliminate the test. If my kids were still school age I would definitely put them in a private school and worry about how to pay for it later.

The GDP GROWTH RATE, which is what you are talking about, is about the same as it was under Trump, after being much higher in prior years - the actual GDP is sitting at about 5k more than it ever was under Trump. NATO actually gained a member because of Biden's example in Ukraine. Afghanistan was a trump failure after he ignored the Afghan government and released five thousand taliban prisoners then forced us into a timeline for withdrawal but refused all handoff of power.
