How do you feel about University of Michigan closing its DEI office, ending multi-million dollar investments?

The University of Michigan — one of the leading academic bastions of diversity, equity and inclusion in the country — is shuttering the doors of its Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and shutting down its model DEI program.

In an email on Thursday, the university’s leaders pointed to the court-order enforcement of President Donald Trump’s executive orders on “restoring merit-based opportunity” and ending DEI programs across the country, as well as the “Dear Colleague” letter from the Department of Education that threatened to eliminate federal funding for universities that did not eliminate their DEI efforts.

It's about time.

DEI had its place in society, decades ago, but those days are long gone. Merit is what should be used.

DEI programs advance a partisan political ideology and I am against government funds being used for such purposes.

isn't it amazing how money will change what people think. Apparently, they don't really value it that much... they value the money... even in the face of shuttering the DOE.

It's so easy, just take up a community collection, a school tax or increase the student fees to pay for the DEI... if they really think it makes sense. There's 200million liberal/democrats, certainly they'd fund it themselves without the govt funding?

Trouble is, it likely doesn't and merit is better.

Hopefully everyone gets graded on merit and all is well in the Great State of Michigan! Go Wolverines...

Kowtowing to Massa Trump, as in the tome,"How Fascism Works:The Politics Of Us And Them," by Yale Professor Jason Stanley, which detalis how Columbia University, the University of Michigan (a GREAT academic institution which, for almost three generations, has become known as a football and to a lesser extent, basketball factory) and other universities are, instead of standing up to Trump's illiberal agenda, are falling in line to at least not oppose it, if not support it.
