How do you feel about new US representative Jimmy Patronis?

Jimmy Patronis won the special election in Florida 1st congressional district to succeed Matt Gatz who resigned. A member of the Republican Party, Patronis previously served as the fourth chief financial officer of Florida from 2017 to 2025, a member of the Florida Public Service Commission from 2015 to 2017; a member of the Florida House of Representatives representing the 6th district, which includes Panama City and other parts of southern Bay County, from 2006 to 2014; and as a member of the Florida Elections Commission from 1998 to 2003.

Patronis is of Greek descent. He is an Orthodox Christian.

He hails from a different part of the state so I have ony heard his name s ince he has been the state CFO. Most people in that position fly under the radar and blend in with the scenery, so I don't have good or bad impressions of him

Democrats tend to be more determined to appear in special elections. It doesn't mean long term shifts.

The best example is special election for Ohio 6th district in June 2024. Republican Michael Rulli won this rural district in Eastern Ohio over Democrat Michael Krupchak by only 9% points. In Novemeber 2024, just 4 months later (which was a rematch between Rulli and Kripchak) Rulli won by 33% points.

In September 2024 New Jersey's 10th congressional district special election, in a deep blue district LaMonica McIver won 81% to 15% (by a 66% margain). Two months later, in Novemeber, she won by 74% to 22% (by a 52% margain - a 14% swing in two months).
