So, after all the drama about my patriotic kitchen knife (which got lost in transit, by the way), I figured I’d go ahead and trigger the Woke Quality Control Squad™ again—this time, with my garden watering can.

Yep. It’s made by a company that's right here in America, and it’s crafted from globally sourced, recyclable materials. And suddenly, because it’s not whittled from an American bald eagle’s femur, it’s apparently not really Made in the USA. 🦾🇺🇸

Similarly, these woke mobsters will humiliate us so-called "MAGA types," for buying our trucks from the Ford Motor Company, because all the parts are not sourced in America.

The internet has somehow decided that unless the dirt, the mold, and the molecules were all born and raised within U. S. borders, the product doesn’t count. Seriously? Chapin is an American company, employing American workers, manufacturing the product here, paying taxes here, and offering a sustainable product.

But, because they source recyclable plastic while cleaning up the ocean, I am somehow an idiot for buying American?

And, let me get this straight. You want to fight climate change, reduce waste, and buy from companies that are actually trying to do the right thing—but when a U. S. manufacturer does exactly that, you find a reason to complain?

I think you're missing the point.
Items like watering cans are quite often going to be made locally, because their manufacture is a simple, fully automated process (so the labour cost is very low), and they are bulky, low value items, which means the cost of shipping would be high relative to the cost of manufacturing.

Despite this, you're still paying a huge premium for it being made in the US, from recycled material - it's about two and a half times the price of a functionally equivalent Chinese product (eg. https://www.ebay.com/itm/405657162031 ).
Obviously, if everything you buy becomes that much more expensive, it's going to have a very serious effect on people's lives.

Now, having said that, it's good that your watering can exists, and environmentally conscious consumers have the option to buy such a thing (it's just too expensive to be the only option). This is the kind of product that the US should be making more of, if they want exports (not huge, gas-guzzling SUVs that noone wants) - especially in Europe, many people are happy to pay a substantial premium for a product/brand with stonger environmental credentials. And obviously it's a good thing for the environment at the same time.
Interestingly, if you apply the same logic to government spending, you arrive at the Green New Deal, which would also be great for the US.

On a slightly different note, I wonder why we even need more watering cans, and where all the old ones have gone? The don't really break; they don't go out of fashion; they don't become obsolete when a new and improved model comes out... The watering can I use is one that was left behind by the house's previous owner, and will likely outlive me.

You're a liar for denying your product is not Murican Made when you are presented with clear evidence that is the truth. And yeah, your Ford F150 is 60% foreign sourced parts and labor. Toyotas builds Camrys here with 21.5% foreign sourced content. Honda build Accords here with 24% foreign sourced content.

It looks like the the watering can is pretty legit. I just bought some stuff for my yard that I would have passed on except that they were Made in USA. I suppose it doesn't make much difference if the recycled plastic came from another country.
However , you have to be careful because many manufacturers will advertise something is made in USA and it is only assembled here.
Idid business with the Toyota imprter for the northeast US region. They had a facility on the waterfront that had 2 car washes. The cars would be driven off the ships white with bird poop and driven through the car washes. Then they put the hub caps on so they could say it was made in USA.
I looked at snowblowers a few years ago. I was going to buy an Ariens like my old one was. It said made in USA but I looked at is closer and it was obvious it had some mongrel engine that was made in some other place, probably China. I went with another brand because it had that familiar Briggs and Stratton engine.
