What’s your IQ, and do you think it’s an accurate representation of someone’s intelligence?

My IQ is 121, and I don’t believe it’s an accurate representation of one’s intelligence.

I was tested 3 times for my job over a period of about 10 years from early 20's to early 30's. The reason was we weren't operating from a rule book. We had to make it up as we went quite often. It was a fluid environment and being flexible was an asset. So was making lemonade out of lemons.

Score were, first 133, then 137, then 143. That's about a 7.5% swing between high and low. But grouped fairly closely. Accurate? Maybe by some definition. But given there were variations, you could average the three results and say 137 is the likely answer. But what if there was a 7.5% error possible (high or low) in every measurement. Then I could be anywhere from 123 to 154. I never really got a complete explanation or understanding of the scoring methodology and any smoothing algorithm being applied.

What if I were tested 10 times? What if I learned what to expect as time went on? What if I had a bad day or a good day? What about the fact I knew I was being tested? What about when I'm just cruising through life without a care, does my brain still work as hard / well when I'm not focused? Or do I do stupid stuff occasionally (yes I do). What has happened to my IQ over time as I have aged? Dunno. Have the tests evolved in the last 25 years? Probably.

Also, from what I can remember the tests were not targeting social IQ. At least not overtly. It was more logic, math, physics, and spatial acuity / topological problems, and reading / recognition / retention. If I had (have) weaknesses it's more on the emotional and social IQ side of things. That's what I've had to work hardest at in life. And the stuff that no one ever taught me.

Every IQ test is flawed in some way, I think it's a bunch of bullshit. Every person is intelligent in their own way. Have you ever been talking with somebody that you thought was an idiot and then they say something so simple yet so profound, something that makes you think "why the fuck didn't I think of that"?

If you take them blind (as in no test prep books or prior information about the test) and you don't guess on any questions only answering those which you have a valid reason for your answer, then you should get an accurate result on your first attempt only if you actually try. That said a lot of people with lower intelligence levels want to feel more intelligent than they actually are, so they study test prep books to get tips from more intelligent people in order to skew their results by several points, and people often guess because they don't have a high enough IQ to solve problems but they want to roll the dice to gamble for a higher IQ result. Thus much of the statistics for the body of results are slightly flawed. Raven’s Progressive Matrices puts my IQ at roughly 158, but I didn't really try that hard.

When I was in high school they guidance counselors were not allowed to tell student s what their IQ was. I was told mine was in the bright/normal range.
