I mean it's probably cheaper and quicker to renovate and expand it than to build a new prison in another naturally isolated location, but it was originally closed down due to operating costs being about 3 times higher than other prisons of comparable size. I can't imagine that this factor has changed, and in fact may be even worse now due to the current state of California.

If it does anything it will send a message. I think that there is a lot of prisons that have been decommissioned. These should be repurposed for illegal aliens. If they all need a trial and an appeal they could be housed there while they work their way through the legal system before they are deported.

If Democrats committed actual crimes, the location of the prison wouldn’t matter—due process would. Alcatraz is symbolic, but reopening it doesn’t mean we’re tossing people in for political disagreement. That’s projection. If anything, it’s about housing actual criminals in a secure location again. If you’re worried, maybe ask why?
