I’ve heard people label groups as too compassionate and then also turn around and say they are all evil.

If they’re facing criticism of being “too soft” and then simultaneously called “evil” by someone else, then they’re not evil. The person critiquing them just doesn’t agree with what they’re doing but can’t come up with any valid justifications for why outside of what they’ve been told.
