Are you worried about the Air traffic controller situation?

In some areas of the U. S. ATC have to work 10+ hour shifts because of the lack of staff. But this job is very challenging mentally and humans can't keep the same level of focus for 10 hours a day. 6 hours is about the max. In other countries there's more strict regulations about how long a ATC can work and they also get more breaks to keep them sharp.

Yes they shouldn’t be working long hours that drive them to drinking themselves to death.

What we need is to reduce their hours, make it so other human beings can enter the air traffic control scene easier not harder, increase wages, and allow counseling/therapy for free as a bonus.

That is just some of what we can do to help, will be looking forward to other productive & meaningful solutions. Air traffic controllers are important to the safety of air travel, period. We can’t thank them enough!

The problem is, that it's a very difficult job to do. A lot of people are not capable of doing it even if they wanted to. Mentally you need to be able to look at the screen and constantly be aware in 3 dimensions where every plane is and juggle all of them safely until you can land them all. You can't just increase the number ATCs quickly and easily unless you lower the standards and that could also lead to more incidents. What's also a problem is that the U. S. has a very high amount of flights compared to most countries.

@Lynx122 High number flights, not enough air traffic controllers, and it is a struggle on the mental health.

What I will say is, we should lower the standards a bit and have professionals who do this job on the hour every hour for about 9 hours to 12 hours teach them the ropes / what to look for then once they’ve got the swing of things they can start taking turns. I mean this for all professional ones teaching / instructing the ‘noobs’ then they can alternate. One day those ‘noobs’ will be the professionals and there will be a healthier cycle on the job which provides safer results and not so many crashes/close calls as we’ve been seeing.

*2nd point: Obviously there would be a class on this before the professionals teach them the ropes of this, the class wouldn’t be college course or some crap it would be more accessible.
Not just saying put a McDonalds employee behind the wheel without any education.

In D. C I would be. It’s so screwed up down there. But think of all the flights that’s going on now. Do incidents happen everyday?

Yes there have been a lot of accidents and near misses this year.

It's not on my radar of things that I have to worry about but what concerns me is that it takes 2-3 years to fully train each air traffic controller. And I haven't heard that they've even started training any new ones yet.🤷🏼‍♀️
