@goaded the difference is that Musk followed the law., He is a legal resident. Yes , having the money to afford attorneys to file papers is an advantage but being a legal resident is not something to take lightly and the way it was explained to me by people who have gone through this, is that when you become a legal resident all the rules are specifically spelled out for you and also what failure to adhere to the rules will result in.

No, Musk was an illegal immigrant when he first started working in the US on a student visa. Pastor Maurilio Ambrocio also broke civil immigration law when he came to the country decades ago, but has been maintaining his right to stay through legal avenues ever since. He was arrested when he turned up to do so, as required.
