At least one case that i know of when a young woman told the baby’s father that she aborted the child, but later gave it up for adoption; knowing fully well that he wanted to raise the child. Fathers usually only get sole custody if the Mother is deemed to be mentally unfit of jailed, but even then the Father could get pushed aside in favour of a female relative in the Mothers family, in a case like this the Mothers family would have to be dysfunctional for the Father to gain sole custody.

I strongly disagree with the whole idea that men are less favored. I personally have many male friends and majority of my male friends actually are the caregivers for their children and we're the ones to get custody of their kid or kids while the mom went and just fucked off her life or what ever, ditched out and they are great dad's. But yes the mom did have to be seriously incapacitated for this to happen like in a facility or just MIA.

These were guys that were gang bangers and the ones that everyone would have probably thought they would do nothing in their lives or end up in prison or dead. Now they are some of the best fathers I know, treat their little girls like princess', provide stable homes and a good life for them and I'm sooo proud to say that I'm not friends with a bunch of dead beats.

Here's what I can tell you from my own case. I went for and got 50/50 custody. I thought it was fair. In reality, there is nothing fair when it comes to custodial decision making. And there is next to no enforcement when it comes to a father standing up for his rights. I've had an incident recently where the mother violated the terms of our parenting time. She refused to bring my child to me as per the custody agreement. She in essence kidnapped my child. Cops said it was a matter for family court. Attorney said I had a choice, rain hell fire down on both of them, pray you get an understanding judge or let it be and maintain whatever relationship you can with your child. Hoping that some day my child sees the truth.

Should I have spent the money and rained hell fire on both of them in order to win, or should I have used faith based parenting?

On the other hand, if she is habitually lying and manipulating, it may be better to leave it as it is, since dishonest manipulative girls and women have a very ugly habit of making horrendous false accusations against men they are angry with, and those things are often taken quite seriously by police and court and social media.

Did the discipline you imposed occur just before that month of not seeing her you mentioned? I ask because if it did it may be her doing and only secondarily that of your ex.

It does bring up a good point though. Should a 16 year old be allowed to make those kinds of choices? In my case, I'm attempting to teach responsibility and to squash entitlement. I can understand that that is not "fun" to a 16 year old. But it is my job as a parent. But yeah, I understand she has a say and that the courts will take it into account.

I cannot say for certain since I don't know what state you live in, but in in California whee I live, I can tell you that minors over the age of 13 or 14 are very often allowed to decide who they want to live with depending on the court's assessment of their maturity. You probably should ask a family law attorney about this in your state if you are not in California.

As to whether or not they *should* be allowed to do this I think some should and some should not, but I also think that some Judge with 3 years of law school should not be in charge of assessing maturity in anyone - you really need a Psychologist for this.

Mom *might* be ok with it provided she still gets all the money she would get if she has full custody, but she will probably be ok with it even with joint or partial custody, again if she gets the same or more money, since she needs a free babysitter.
