Depends on what you’re looking at.
We have more information at our disposal than ever in human history, but most people can’t process information without their smartphones.
We’re more connected than we’ve ever been, but most people also report being lonelier than ever.
We make more money, but we’re largely discontent.
Statistics suggest we’re the safest and most secure we’ve ever been, but most people are suffering from anxiety and peripheral health conditions related to long term elevated cortisol levels.
Given that most of these statistics are born of the soft sciences, and those took a major hit during the Grievance Studies Affair, i’m going to go out on a limb and respond with a firm ‘NO! We are not currently better off than in the past!’.
I’m a left leaning moderate, but “progress” is going to k*ll us all and burn everything we’ve built to the ground if we don’t straighten up and fly right… and quick!

No, we are still carbon based life with survival instincts and every genetic variation within the bounds of the tool kit. We adapt to our environment over LONG periods of time, bur clearly with all the hatred and turmoil in the world we are still the same animal that we've been for at least the last few thousand years. The overly aggressive and possessive often inflict suffering on those that simply want to enjoy life and noy be bothered. We keep trying to install the notion that might should be used for right, but wandering back to might makes right. Greed, hate and arrogance are relentless. It has always been that way.

I think that people were just as messed up in the past, for example, it was more accepted to smack your wife around if she "got out of line". Women had less rights back then.

I think the driving factors in this are that social media makes it more obvious than in the past that people can be degenerates and that the mindset of shaming others for being different was fading from existence.

I mean, I think some societies have made progress in terms of scientific understanding, tolerance and acceptance of differences between individual preferences and lifestyles, etc. I don't think that humans have necessarily changed on a fundamental level, but still. Progress is progress, even if a lot of people would prefer to regress at the moment.

People definitely are different. They evolve, and this prevents stagnation.

Stagnation is the base for decay.

We have removed a lot horrible morals from society.

How ever in other aspects we regressed.

I think overall we are probably about the same, when you weigh the progression to the regression.
