How do you feel about wearing USA flag pins?

In the periods I spend in the US, I generally wear it on Sundays or Holidays or social events - either that, or a Massachusetts State flag pin.

It was weird at first because it was included with a suit I bough in Plymouth. I asked my American friends if it was okay for me to wear it as a non American and pretty much got told that since I got a home there, I'm active part of the community and respect and honor American values and beliefs it's okay.

I don't have a flag lapel pin but if I did, I would be proud to wear it. And I am glad to have you wear one on special occasions.

In a vacuum I would not particularly care. I do not think its a healthy relationship with your country to always display it as a sort of patriotic pride, since patriotism is essentially a cultural poison but I think its minor enough to mostly be overlooked.. Normally.. Of course if there is a cultural event going on then I can understand the pomp and circumstance included around it but that is not what we are talking about.

No. What we are talking about is specifically this type of performative patriotism. I dont care if its genuine or a manipulative way to shape other peoples perception of you, either way its harmful for society. In a society that is already choking to death under cultural suicide, patriotism is just making the situation worse by trying to defend the sorry situation your country is in as opposed to working to fix it.

Over here flag pins are often used to show what languages you speak.

I am indifferent. People can decorate themselves with whatever they please to.

Myself... I refuse to wear ''system-clothing'' - and a pin on my t-shirt would look silly.

That's why I might do just that one day. But it would be the Taiwan flag.

I'm not an American, but if I ever become an American i'd have to pledge allegiance. Those flags are an indicator of allegiance so it would be perfectly fine to wear at that point.

Always had one on the job. I had a red ribbon which was at the time anti drug. If I worked with a druggie I'd add a black outline to it which represented total junkie death.

@Dongie Sadly, no! He was in Vietnam and was exposed to agent orange which eventually gave him cancer and he died about a dozen years ago. 2011, I think. I wish somebody would've told me a couple months before he died, I could've cured him!! I heard nothing about it until a few days before he died and, even then, I heard it from my guitarist's daughter who lives down in Arizona!! Nobody would even tell me what hospital he was in!!

Damn! I think you mentioned that now. At first last year. I lost a very best friend in September 2011 he too was black. Then another best in March 2012, then another in September 2012. We're speaking 5 total best friends from my teens except Hunter, the black guy I met at age 32. The other two I lost in September 2019 and March 2023. That's weird. I never noticed, but all five were in the same two months. Damn! Jeff was on March 4th, 2012, which was on Donnies', double first cousin, 53rd birthday, who in turn died 9 days later on the 13th, while Britt was March 3rd, 2023. Hunter, Craig 22nd, Billy Joe all in September. I was living far away from the latter two and was never given the exact day. I'd like to know now. Don't get bored! I've made it to the end! 😅

@Dongie As far as I know, everybody that was in the band when I first joined up with them is dead. It's possible Greg Denham is still alive, I saw his name in the obits at leastv30 years ago but I've heard reports that he's still alive! As far as I know, all of the members from before I joined and all but two of the members after I joined are still alive. However, there's quite a few that I haven't seen or heard from since way back then, too! Maybe a few others are dead and I just don't know it.

@Dongie Several times. Nigel Swat, Erin Snyder, Sharyn Fredericks and Dana Barker
The rest were guys. Chris Van Sickle, Greg Denham, Steve Heinemann, myself (just for one song), George Grant, Chris Yustinish, Richard Schnap, the singer, Bobby Porter, played bass badly for a short time, Matt Mashyna, Bill Turney, Toby Houser, and i think that's it. For a while, we didn't have any bass player. Shortly after I joined, I played SOME bass with my Synare or John Wells played bass on his guitar and a year later we had Dave Aucoin on keyboards taking up the low end. Just after that we had 3 keyboardists and a guy on guitar.
