Oh boy…. haha. Welp…. this is a complex answer, yet a simple one. And I have a nice, more understanding aspect of it, and a more harsh, misanthropic one. I’ll attempt to cover it all. Buckle up, and maybe put some coffee on, lmao. This will be very long. And I apologize in advance to Physics-Man for the probably dozens of notifications he’ll get because of all the fragments of this that I have to send🤣 I hope my initial opinion is permitted a lot of words, haha. (Also, re: your update…. if I say “you” throughout this, to be clear, I don’t mean “YOU, Physics-Man.” I’m not going to pull any punches, something may end up being a shot across the bow, but it’s not intended as a targeted individual slight, just so we’re clear👍)

Upon completion, I think this is something of a GAG magnum opus for me, so I’m even going to tag a few friendlies who I know at a least a couple will take the time to read it, because my detractors with Twitter attention spans love to tell me how my stuff is basically “too much text, not enough crayon”, and tell me they didn’t even bother reading my long diatribe…even though you’d have to get to the end to know it’s long and to be offended by it enough to say something🤔😂

But there’s no possible way to TL;DR this, it’s pretty comprehensive, so just take that warning right now, and read it or don’t🤷‍♂️✌️To those I tagged…. no pressure. It’s just because you’ve read long rants of mine in the past and given me a thumbs up, so I know you have the attention spans for it, and you might have an interest. If you have better things to do than read a chapter or two of a book, lmao, I totally get it. Just throwin’ it out there. You can not read it and I won’t ask if you did. I’ll probably start simple and harsh, and air out my grievances, then wrap up with an arm around the shoulder to hopefully make people understand that the primary concern is about universal decency and societal harmony, and not about hating conservative people and America, not about freezing anyone out, and not being enemies and dividing ourselves and our nation. So hang with me, there’s a hug at the end, even though I’m probably going to be mean and throwing haymakers for like 80% of this, lmao. And please understand that the source of my rage is incredulousness that people are able to be assholes to others out of nowhere. I don’t think it’s idealism to expect people to generally be nice and accommodating to one another, you know?

Alright, so I’ll start off with saying that the majority of my issues with MAGA are in the social attitudes. I think a lot of the fiscal stuff is bad too, but that’s more of a secondary “…. AND he’s trying to do this dumbass tariff thing on top of the social bullshit?” I’ll leave the economics out of it because that’s a whole other book series, lmao

Maybe it’s good to try to summarize my overall worldview as it relates to America and life on Earth in general, because that steers my goals. George Carlin once said “scratch a cynic, and underneath, you’ll find a disappointed idealist.” That’s probably a fair label for me, haha. But I don’t think idealism is something we should ever stop chasing, even if we fall short.

A word you’re going to hear over and over again from me is “decency.” Decency is maybe the most important human quality, in my eyes. No other goal supersedes that. I’m willing to abandon “life as we know it” to achieve it. I think universal decency should be the guiding light, and the guardrails within which every other human pursuit must fall between.

Like even if something would be of some tangible benefit, if it requires indecency to even one human (or any alive being) to achieve it, then it’s off the table for discussion, period. Indecency, inequality, and inequity (where applicable) are my “walk away from the bargaining table” deal-breakers. Not even up for debate, done immediately, no compromises on that. That’s my line in the sand that I won’t allow to be crossed. That’s the kind of principle I’m willing to put my life on the line in war over, and I’m not a big war guy. I would potentially die to ensure that others don’t behave like assholes for no good reason, lmao.

Alright, so now that you understand where I’m at, let’s get to MAGA. In the interest of time, I’ll try to not break down every single view I oppose and just hit them as necessary, however my stream of consciousness leads me. This is more supposed to be why I think it has a lot of cult-like qualities.

Or I guess maybe I’ll as quickly as possible touch on my major problems with MAGA’s social attitudes, and here’s where I’ll probably be a little curt.

— I don’t like the “manosphere”, Andrew Tate, “a woman’s place is in the kitchen” stuff. That feels like mediocre men frustrated that women now have options and aren’t just going to turn a certain age, start panicking, and just look around quickly at nearby guys and be like “uhhhhh…. YOU! I’ll marry you, I guess. Good enough. And you can be a douche and slap me around or berate me, and I’ll still raise your children, keep a clean house, and have dinner ready at 5:30 when you walk in the door.”, and now those guys actually have to work on themselves to be viable potential partners.

— I don’t like the anti-LGBTQ sentiment. Being anti-LGBTQ is not only ignorant and hateful, but it’s also just an obnoxious case of not minding your own business. It’s not harmful to anyone, it’s a natural state of being that you don’t learn or get conditioned into, because “DUH” (how many lessons would you need to be convinced to suck a dick when you didn’t initially want to?😂), and every LGBTQ person I’ve had a deep conversation with has said they knew they were LGBTQ-as-personally-applicable around the same age that I knew I was straight, maybe just plus some internal confusion due to negative societal attitudes. So it all checks out, as I see it. Anyone else being weirded out or whatever by it, that’s a you-problem. And asking people to hide it in public is ridiculous. Like a straight teacher can mention they went on a summer vacation with their husband/wife to their class of kids, but if an LGBTQ person said they did that with their partner, that’s “indoctrination?” WHAT, bro? Make it make sense.

— Good time to segue into the imposition of Christianity on broad society. I respect anyone’s right to believe in whatever they want, within reasonable bounds that don’t get outwardly applied to others. Live your life your way, let others live their way, and don’t say boo to them about it. That should be easy. But this effort to make the Bible “the way”, for everybody, in the most diverse country on Earth, is fucking preposterous. If y’all can negotiate for Greenland, why don’t you take that nonsense up there and start fresh, that can’t work in 2025 America😂

— Immigration…. We can have all the talks about legal processes and security and all that good stuff, that’s fine. But the energy of all the deportation stuff is FUCKED UP. It’s not that they’re doing it as much as HOW they’re doing it, and the gleeful mood around it, like they’re stomping out cockroaches. Just because someone came here undocumented doesn’t mean that they’re no longer human and they deserve whatever comes to them. I shouldn’t even have to be having this conversation with adults, like what the fuck is wrong with your soul? Assigning different values to humans based on where they’re from and how they got here? That’s fucking CRAZY. And then taking the very small portion of them who are legitimately bad apples, and painting the millions of other good (or at least average) people as malicious invaders trying to rob our homes, r@pe and murder our women, and somehow simultaneously take our jobs while also not working and living off our welfare system…. that’s fucking ghoulish. Like you could deport every one of these people, and I might not like every case of it…but if the energy was right, there’s a scenario where I wouldn’t necessarily be saying people should be in the streets over it. Not to mention we have plenty of white people here overstaying visas and such, but everyone getting gaffled up is black or brown? For real? And then they pull a stunt with white South Africans, who I don’t care if they come here, and I don’t care if their kids get birthright citizenship…. but that whole thing was a troll job for liberals. I mean, bring them over if they’re truly in danger (I don’t think there’s any white genocide in South Africa though, that’s ridiculous), that’s fine. But just say it out loud if you’re racist and you just want immigrants to be white🙄

Ok, so that’s a good deal of what I oppose, from a human standpoint, which is always the most important aspect of government and politics for me. Prosperity, military might, etc…. that’s all very secondary to me. But basically, don’t be a dick to women, LGBTQ people, non-Christians, or people of color, regardless of where they’re from or how they got here. Treat humans like full-fledged humans at all times, no exceptions. And I find men, straight people, and white people, to be the biggest (but certainly not ONLY) offenders, and their offenses carry heavier life-impact on the targets than anything reverse can cause for them, generally speaking. So “straight white male” isn’t inherently the archvillain, but has the most capability to be so…. but other demographics, minorities in other situations, can still be just as big of offenders, especially if they desire to be accepted by the archvillain crowd on some “pick me” shit.

So, probably a million words in, lmao, let’s get to the constituents of MAGA. If I was going to break it down to basic, kindergarten terms, the common denominator is that they’re mean-spirited, they’re dumb, or both. And I don’t have a lot of time for folks like that, honestly.

The most important thing to understand about Trump, above all else, is that he’s an egomaniacal pathological liar. You absolutely HAVE TO be able to have those lenses on to understand this. If you don’t…. that’s exactly how you become MAGA. So much of this is based on “but Trump says…”, and if you take anything that guy says at face value, you’ve already lost. I’ve never seen a more obvious conman in my life.

And that’s really saying something, within the political sphere. He makes normal politicians seem honest, and I can’t believe my thumbs have to type that in reality. But that’s a huge part of the whole grift, that people think HE’S just some well-intentioned outsider speaking the truth, and everyone else is the liar. And that’s simply not at all what’s happening here, and I can’t believe that needs to be pointed out. Yet MAGA has created this perpetual victim atmosphere where any criticism or legal charge levied against Trump is automatically bogus and just an attempt by “tHe rEaL bAd GuYs” to take him down. It’s all preposterous on its face, but that one of the reasons it gets the cult label. The leader is never wrong. Anyone who questions the leader IS wrong. Questioning the leader will get you attacked, whether you were in the cult or not. And these people believe it and fall in line 🤯

I always say, take the politics and feelings completely out of it, or just switch the content to a liberal message, and I still would be like “you’d have to be fucking stupid to believe a word out of this guy’s mouth.” Used car salesman vibes OFF THE CHARTS, lmao. The biggest shock to me, even more so than learning what terrible attitudes Americans have towards life and humanity, is just simply that they could fall for THIS obvious of a hustle. That is absolutely ASTOUNDING to me. But the whole game is to sell you a bill of goods, but to have a shared bigotry against some group you don’t like for some probably irrational and completely unwarranted reason that keeps you on board.

Most of the agenda is fear-mongering. “We’re losing the country!”, dumb shit like that. Who is “we?” That’s always a key question that often gives the game away.

Even the “Make America Great Again” slogan…. it has never in its history been great for everyone at the same time, and never, for some. So to me, there’s no direction for America to move but forward, because America isn’t a straight white Christian nation, as much as a lot of MAGA supporters wish it to be.

So here’s why I think it’s pretty cult-y. It’s very much based on blind and unwavering obedience to “the program.” We can find some semblance of that in a lot of politics, for sure. But one of the biggest cop-outs I see is this effort to make it seem like MAGA is just some run-of-the-mill movement, but it’s just a wildly different animal. We end up “both sides’ing” the argument, or comparing it to the bipartisan “establishment”, but I just see this as so, SO MUCH worse. When I hear “drain the swamp”, I laugh, coming from these people. Sending Trump to clean up DC is like blowing up a bathroom and sending in a skunk to spray to cover it up. Febreeze he is not, lmao.

So I describe all of these MAGA things in such detail to further explain why I think the supporters are just living in some other reality that simply isn’t Earth 1.0’s reality. And that largely is because of Trump’s pathological lies that they believe to be true, and is bolstered by hearing it from propaganda outfits that posture as legitimate news like FoxNews, and the trickle down into the MAGAsphere of social media, and suddenly it just becomes an understood “truth” to many people, deliberately or accidentally.

Like some of the stuff they get riled up about…. simply not real things that are happening. Painting the border issue like it was just a wide open gate…false. Saying the economy was bad under Biden…. false, demonstrably so. Saying the 2020 election was stolen…. very fucking false. Antifa and the Feds being the perpetrators of January 6th…. hysterically laughable. Calling moderate corporate shill Democrat suits like Biden and Harris “radical left Marxists”…. ROFLMFAO-false. Nobody is putting kitty litter boxes in elementary schools for kids to identify as cats. And speaking of cats…. nobody’s eating them, or dogs, just lmfao🤦‍♂️🤡

Like he’s just managed to create this version of America that doesn’t exist in reality, but he’s successfully sold it to half the country, a lot of them rubes from flyover states who have never left Hazzard County, took their cousin to the prom, and think The Olive Garden is fine dining, so they’ll have no other real world experience outside of their bubble to teach them otherwise.

The most shocking thing to me is watching all of the interviews at MAGA rallies during the last campaign. I have never seen a more wild combination of being monumentally uninformed while being supremely overconfident in what they’re saying. This is where I have to get real mean and start calling people stupid, which I don’t relish, but I’m out of other answers. And I’ve seen these things live-streamed, not even just compilations where you could say they just selectively clipped the dumbest people and highlighted them. I saw a kid go through the crowd live, and it’s just dumbfuck after dumbfuck after dumbfuck after dumbfuck. It’s TRULY unbelievable. Like it’s a level of stupidity I was unprepared for, honestly.

And so much of it is willful self-delusion. This video illustrates so much of what I’m talking about. I almost can’t believe these people are for real, it’s like an off-beat comedy sketch that’s way less funny when you realize it’s real life.

She gets her logical and ethical standards flipped back on her, and in a backwards way, I give her credit for not dancing around it, and just flat out says “I don’t care🤷‍♂️” when confronted with a hypocritical change in circumstance.

This is where we’re at. Nothing matters, facts are optional, say literally anything and don’t be afraid to completely change directions with the breeze, as long as it helps you come to the answer of “Trump is right, Trump wins.” There’s no shared basis of fact, and that’s pretty much an impossible circumstance to have any sort of debate or even just try to reason them back into reality.

Some of the stupidity is mean-spirited, some seems more well-meaning and just misinformed, sometimes it’s a combination of the two…but the common denominator is always that “Trump said it, so that’s my truth.” And you are big-time COOKED once you’re at that point.

Trump himself is so fucking unimpressive to me, I really don’t understand the hype. He’s what a weak person thinks is tough. He’s what a dumb person thinks is smart. He’s what a loser thinks is successful. He’s what a dork thinks is funny. The idea that he’s charismatic is BAFFLING to me, and I’m starting recycle old jokes here, but the fact that people do is what makes me understand how all these TERRIBLE network TV shows that I see advertised during NFL games stay on the air for multiple seasons. “NCIS: Omaha” and “Chicago DPW” and shit😝 “Whose brain function could be so abysmally low that they’d watch this bullsh— OHHHHH, right, those guys.”🤦‍♂️😂

I would be EMBARRASSED to laugh publicly at something like “Sleepy Joe” or “Crooked Hillary” after like age 11. The fact that it has so many people rolling in the aisles and holding their sides is just…. holy shit🤯 A buddy of mine and I always say that The Simpsons changed everything for us at like 12-14 years old. How could I watch prime 1990s Simpsons writing, and then ever go back to watching Uncle Joey’s “Cut✂️ It👉 Out ⬅️” on Full House or Steve Urkel on Family Matters saying “Did IIIIIIIII do thaaaaatttt?🤓” and think it’s even remotely funny? It’s over, I’ve evolved past that, a new bar has been set. And I just see what these MAGA people laugh at, and it’s kind of like that, like “have you never watched The Simpsons? This is elementary school level humor you’re laughing at here…”

Even in online arguments…I have to EXPLICITLY say when I’m talking about Trump, I can’t just imply it and say like “well, we’re suffering from the political moves of a madman”….. because some window-licking MAGA idiot will chime in like “You’re right…. Biden IS a madman!”, as if that’s at all funny or clever after fourth grade, yet grown adults are like internet-high-fiving each other like they just owned me. I’m so fucking second-hand embarrassed for them.

And maybe the biggest thing: it’s all just wholly dishonest. Sometimes it’s being legitimately misinformed, but sometimes it’s willful deception, and that’s where you really lose me. And this is where the “both sides” or “DC establishment” cop-outs really start pouring in. That’s their camouflage, “oh, all establishment politicians on both sides are liars.” But again, I can’t necessarily cleanly articulate it in any succinct way, and this will be long enough as is…. but it’s just not the same as the old brand, and it’s even worse and more dishonest, believe it or not. I didn’t think it was possible either, but it apparently is, and we can’t fall into the trap of thinking it’s just more of the same old, same old.

And perhaps the most egregiously dishonest part of the movement, but seemingly the most ubiquitously accepted, is that liberals “hate America.” If we hated America, we wouldn’t be fighting MAGA so hard to save it. And if what America was pre-Trump bothers you and you favor his vision…. you’re either gullible as fuck or a terrible and hateful person. Possibly both.

Trump has caused me to be MORE patriotic, in a backwards way. Now I’m like “fuck…. i gotta fight for my country. Kinda thought we could stay on cruise control for my lifetime and just few with the normal fuckery, but a bunch of lunatics popped up and are trying to make wholesale changes that disproportionately benefit them (or at least think they will and have been conned) and harm others, based on some kind of demographic characteristic. But now…. do I need to get a rifle? Are we really there now?” This is what they were talking about when they told us “Don’t take America for granted.” But we’re apparently not listening, and now I wonder if I gotta strap up.

And I hate feeling that way, because, arm around the shoulder moment here, plenty of MAGA voters can be very charming on an individual level. My problem is just that they’re selectively charming, and if I showed up as a stranger at their doorstep with a flat tire, whether or not I’m a blond, blue-eyed white guy might be the determining factor between being greeted with a smile and a power jack, or a shotgun in my face and a “git off muh prawpurty”, based on nothing but some idiotic stereotype they hold.

I’ve shifted my standards to “me considering you a good person doesn’t necessarily have to do with how you treat ME. That’s easy as fuck for a lot of people to like me, demographically. It’s how you treat others while simultaneously accepting me pretty automatically.” If I lived next door to Derek Chauvin, we’d probably wave when we passed, or talk about the upcoming Vikings football season when we’re out doing lawn work (assuming I’m a Minnesotan in this scenario), and invite me to his neighborhood BBQ. Whether it’s a problem of race or class or just a generally authoritarian attitude, he still kneeled on a guy’s neck til he died (even if you believe Floyd died from something else…. there’s never any reason a cop should be kneeling on a person’s neck as a means of restraint, that’s fucking INSANE), and THAT’S why I think he’s a bad person.

So these charming Southerners and Midwesterners…. they’re kind of suspect to me a lot of the time, because I don’t want your charm and kindness to be selective and performative. I love bass fishing, I’m sure I could go out in a John boat with some guy from Alabama, split a case of beer, and talk some football while catching lunkers all day, and have a grand old time, we might get along famously. In a vacuum, no problems with you.

But if we get out there and he starts dropping slurs and saying ignorant shit, even not directed towards me…. I don’t need to know low-caliber people like that. Those are character-killing infractions that make an otherwise good person bad. And seeing how things have gone, and the volume and level of joy I see in some of these hateful expressions, it just really renders millions and millions of people unlikable. That’s when I get to “not only am I ashamed to call this person a fellow American and have my good name associated with theirs, but I’m being pushed to a point where I don’t know what to call this other than “evil.””

And it’s very hard to find sympathy for that. Yet I see it as a hopefully correctable thing, but they’d have to want to, and it feels like so many of them really don’t, maybe never did, and Trump gave them the permission slip they were looking for to just let it fly. And that’s when we get into these dumb Constitutional arguments where people want to twist “free speech” into a pass to be an unabashed dickhead while facing no repercussions. Like maybe you technically *could* use it for those purposes…. but what’s the positive result we get by doing so? None, as I see it.

There is one that I REALLY want to post, and it’s an additional 7 minutes, lmfao, but I think it really perfectly captures my main beef with MAGA, and that’s that the majority of everything they say or act upon is based on outright lies. And back to the haymakers, you’re either really fucking stupid, or you’re a deliberate and malicious liar, possibly both, but there’s not really a third/fourth option of “neither.”

So…the cult aspect, then I’ll get to the hug, and we can all go on about our night, lmao. You can see it from the constituents to the politicians themselves. The telltale sign is “get with the program, or you’re out, and under attack.” How many former MAGA supporters are there that have now been called traitors and secret liberal saboteurs and people who “were never really MAGA”, because they either got fucked over or saw the light?

That’s all part of the cult mentality. Unwavering following of the leader, and any dissent is quickly shouted down into compliance, or kicked out and targeted for ostracization. Everybody’s awesome until they aren’t. I’ve forgotten more people than I remember at this point, but there’s a whole ex-MAGA graveyard out there that will only expand as time goes on. I think they’re currently digging a hole for Tucker Carlson, lmao, he dared to speak out against the program. But he’s far from the first or last.

I do see some people slowly waking up to the con, especially those not of the “MAGA ideal” demographics. Latinos for Trump are getting a hard lesson in the lies. No, it was never about just MS-13, they want your favorite Uncle Carlos too. You aren’t white, and they’re never going to accept you as such. Stop trying. The ‘Z’ at the end of your name will make you an outsider to them forever. They need you right now. If they get to the point of comfort, you’ll be next. They want America re-whitened, that’s the issue, all these weirdo Great Replacement conspiracy theorists.

Black MAGA…. bruh. BRUH. What in the world are you doing? They fucking HATE YOU. You can never Carlton Banks your way into their hearts, I’m sorry. I’m not even fully comfortable saying that as a white dude😅, but I’m tryna keep it a billion right now. They’re mad they can’t deport you under any pretense of reasonable circumstances, lmao. But please believe they’d love to see you doing pull-ups in a prison yard if they can ever catch you slippin’.

Poor and middle class white people…. the biggest marks. You ain’t getting into the country club. They don’t want that. You look like they want you to look, act somewhat how they want you to act, but there’s no membership at Bedminster or Mar-A-Lago coming. Elites want to remain elite. We’re going back a ways, to Reagan, but he heavily attacked funding for free public college in America (leading to the student loan crisis we see today), and one of his main advisers on the topic was quoted earlier in his career, and I’ll paraphrase it, but he basically said “we don’t want the proletariat getting educated and losing them as laborers. We need to be selective about who gets educated.” That’s fucking unbelievable. And Reagan, after some wartime faltering in agenda and mood with GW Bush, led to the Tea Party movement of the late 00s/early 10s, which pretty much evolved into MAGA in 2015 through today. It’s like the Tea Party with more loud bigotry and probably less politically informed/historically politically involved voters added to the mix. So even dumber choices get made, lmfao.

Alright, this has been most of my day, I’ll start with the soft talk.

Look…. we’re all Americans here (well, not everyone reading, but…you get me, haha). We love this place. We resent that you guys try to hijack patriotism and characterize our concerns about our society as just vaguely “hating America”, and that your proposed solution is “if you don’t like it then fuck off somewhere else.” With all respect, that’s very basic thinking.

Our problem with MAGA, in addition to the false narratives they push and just the overall willful deception, lying, and mischaracterization of issues, is that it attacks so many of the very things that are the reason we love our country. I love that we aren’t all the same. I love that we hopefully endeavor as a people to be a force of good in the world, however our government will steer us off course sometimes. I love that we try to catch and pick up people when they fall, as a national community. Too many still get left behind, but there’s at least a visible effort towards compassion and assistance.

MAGA has just left many of us disheartened by what we see as a deviation from those values, and an ushering in of an era of “me first”, “sink or swim, and the successful swimmers will celebrate the drownings”, and what just seems to be a concerted effort to attack people at a demographic level. And the attacked people are usually punched down at as they’re walking uphill anyway, BECAUSE OF the down-puncher’s overall atmosphere that they’ve created and protected over the years. And they usually aren’t doing anything that wrong on a broad scale that warrants the throwing of punches in the first place. And most of the claimed wrongdoing that I could even reluctantly concede to in some aspect, it still almost always feels like the punishments heavily outweigh the crimes, on the whole, and that they’re motivated by mean spirit and negative stereotypes more than anything functionally appropriate.

In a few words, we’re really only asking people to be nice, respectful, inclusive, and accommodating, to harmless people who are living their lives just like you, maybe just a little differently, or maybe not even, but you assume it because of their appearance differences. And we just don’t understand why that upsets you or causes you to feel oppressed, because on our end, that’s not the intent. Shit, I’m right in those very crosshairs as a straight white guy, I don’t feel the least bit oppressed. Don’t look at it in such a zero-sum fashion like anyone else having things better automatically means you’ll have it worse. We’ve always had differences, and that’s fine and normal…. but just broadly, can we all just agree to be tolerant? Our perceived intolerance on the left is just towards intolerance itself. Without the original intolerance, you wouldn’t hear a peep from us, we’ve got better things to do. But the original intolerance is totally uncalled for, and we’re just standing up to bullying, as I see it.

And I can respect all manner of beliefs…. but maybe we should question either the fundamentals or our human interpretations of any belief system that tells us to NOT be tolerant of everyone. Picking on Christianity just because it’s the predominant religion here…. there’s so much beautiful scripture in the Bible that highlights kindness and compassion. I feel like I never hear those anywhere as much as I just hear scripture quoted as a means of justifying giving others a hard time. I just don’t really understand that. Use your faith to be a BETTER person, not a person who thinks they’re better, you know?

This is how much politics on the Democratic side has devolved over recent decades.

I have 1960s-70s hippie, liberal values and was a life-long Democrat. But I have become disgusted with the Democratic party and no longer recognize what passes for "liberalism" these days.
