Why are certain people with mental and / or physical handicaps angry at the world?

It's important to recognize that anger is a normal human emotion, and people with disabilities, just like everyone else, may experience anger for various reasons,
including those related to their disability or mental health challenges, such as: medical conditions, changes in social status, physical pain, and mental health challenges.
However, anger is not a universal experience for people with disabilities, and it is crucial to avoid stereotypes and generalizations.

Here are some reasons why some individuals with disabilities might experience anger or frustration:
    1. Facing discrimination and prejudice:
Ableism: This is the discrimination and social prejudice against people with disabilities based on the belief that typical abilities are superior. Ableism can manifest in various ways, including:Social avoidance and exclusion: People with disabilities may be left out of social activities, or face difficulty finding acceptance and inclusion in communities.
Stereotyping: People with disabilities may be presumed to be helpless, incapable, or unable to make their own decisions.
Discrimination in employment, housing, and other areas: Despite disability rights laws like the ADA, individuals with disabilities can face denial of opportunities due to false assumptions or stereotypes.
Condescension and patronizing attitudes: Being treated as if they are less capable or need constant protection can be frustrating.
Blaming: Individuals might be blamed for their disability or accused of using it for personal gain.
Lack of accommodations: Inaccessible environments (physical and digital) and the refusal to provide reasonable accommodations can be infuriating.
Negative societal attitudes: Prejudices and misconceptions about disability can limit access to opportunities and resources, leading to social exclusion and hardship.
    2. Dealing with the impact of their condition:
Loss of abilities: Acquiring a disability can lead to grieving the loss of previous abilities and navigating significant changes in social roles and relationships.
Physical pain and discomfort: Chronic pain can be a major source of frustration and anger, especially if there's inadequate support.
Mental health challenges: Some mental health conditions, like bipolar disorder or PTSD, can involve increased anger or difficulty managing emotions.
    3. Navigating complex systems:
Bureaucracy and difficulty accessing services: Dealing with complicated disability rights laws, policies, and regulations can be overwhelming.
    4. Internalized stigma:
Adopting negative beliefs about themselves: Constantly facing prejudice can lead some individuals to internalize negative beliefs about their disability and feel ashamed.
    5. Past experiences and unresolved issues:
Trauma: Past trauma, such as abuse or neglect, can contribute to anger and difficulties with emotional regulation.
Discrimination and injustice: Experiences of discrimination or unfair treatment can lead to anger and a sense of powerlessness.
In conclusion, while anger is a normal human emotion experienced by everyone, some individuals with disabilities may experience it more frequently or intensely due to the added burden of societal discrimination, prejudice, and the challenges associated with their condition. Understanding the root causes of their anger is crucial for fostering empathy, promoting inclusivity, and advocating for a more just and equitable society for all.

I think the world looks down on people with mental illness, even when they've taken care of using appropriate drugs to manage their illness. And physically handicapped people have a terrible time of navigating streets and buildings that are not accessible.

I know in my neighborhood sidewalks are regularly blocked by people parking their cars across them, or parking too close to accessible curbs, or there being NO accessible curbs for those with canes, wheelchairs, pulling oxygen tanks, on crutches.

I was on crutches and in a wheelchair after a surgery and it was mindboggling how difficult it was to get around, and how much effort and time it took to do the simplest tasks.

All homes should have accessible bathrooms because it makes it easier and safer for young children, able people AND those less able.

Everybody LOVES the accessible bathroom because it's spacious and you don't feel like you're in a box. Right? It's the same with the accessible shower at the gym. Those extra grab bars and those plastic shower chairs are great if you want to shave your legs or you're tired after that workout!

Anyone who reaches old age will face accessibility issues. And some will face these same issues due to pregnancy, accident, or necessary surgery. It's best to be proactive and generous about accessibility. Then no one of any side of able or disabled needs to be angry.
