What does Homecoming feel like to you?

So this is a question that is very specific to those people who live away from home and possibly go back home only when it is possible and what I would like to know is how does going home feel? Is it always a pleasant experience or are you baffled by how disappointed you feel?

It does feel like you’re speaking directly to me 😏


And honestly every day I’m reminded of why I left.
I love this place. But it’s an irrational downright toxic love.
Pragmatically, this place has done me no favors and always found a way to break me down.


I’m the big bad wolf here.
The “threat”
The guy who’s so egotistical and self centered that thinks he’s so much better than everyone else.


That’s the perception.


The reality is. I achieved more than most in a short amount of time and no matter what I do I will drag out the envy in others


They can’t accept that I get to be the “tall dark and handsome AND successful guy”


Just tonight I was sitting in a group of people (friends of my brother)
Two girls were baffled by how I’m still single
And later accused me of being too forward and pushy even though all I did was answer the questions they asked and otherwise sit quietly
Made 0 comments.
Asked for absolutely nothing.


It’s definitely an interesting dynamic.

You might find it hard to believe but I understand you totally on this point. What's more you have indirectly responded to something I said the othe day in another question to which at the time it remained unanswered. I'm a white witch after all!!

I've lived at, basically... three different places but within the same region... they all feel like home to me, but different kinds of home too

I am just so much more familiar with one place... and less with the other, or just a different kind of familiarity... the places we have in Texas is just way bigger, the kind of place in which you have a lot less neighbors and the few you have, kind of prefer to keep to themselves, they are not total strangers no... but the sense and feel of community is a whole lot less than in the places we have in Mexico, which are almost more family like, or truly familiar

But that phrase has become part of the English language because it has meaning for a lot of people. I've traveled the planet my whole life from the time I was born. But there is one place I think of as home. However every time I go back to the physical place what hits me is the fact that it has changed. I have changed. It's not the same place or time or people of the memories that draw me back there. And I have to come to terms with that in my head every time. That past lives only in my mind now.

It's a life lesson that has led me to live in the moment and accept that the past is unreachable while the future is just a range of possibilities.

I moved away more than 20 years ago, so I've basically spent half of my life away from the country I was born in. I have a feeling of familiarity - especially visiting places I went to as a kid - but at the same time, I have a feeling I don't really belong there anymore. My home is where my direct family is - wife and daughter.

I think it happens to all of us who resettled somewhere else. The people in your home country see you as the one who moved away, the odd one. People in your new country of residence see you as the one having different roots.

Pleasant experiences? Not lately. The past few years have seen the passing away of many older family members. Those are not the occasions where you want to get together with family members.

For me it's been 19 years and 3 countries away from my "home" where I still have family and friends.

Returning, I can't say homecoming because my home is where my immediate family and residence is, becomes less and less familiar to me. The minor changes, though in familiar surroundings, bring on strong perceptional adjustments, like it's "all new". Ironically saddening, the memories I have come from the Iconic BRANDS and icons of consumerism that reside exactly how they were when I left which shouldn't be how one envisages their past as it should be about the who not the what. Fortunately, the who are still very much around with their additional whos like plants and shrubs grown in a garden in the same place year after year.

I think perhaps I msy be like the insect returning now and again for the nectar of my roots despite being well fed elsewhere. The best Scotch is found in Scotland you could say.

I love home :) Just only living 23 km outside the city it was very different. The people there knew each other their whole lives and I was an outsider. They were mostly friendly but it was still difficult. But in my city even if I meet new people I feel like connection is easier because we live in the same place and it shapes you in a way.

I could always breathe deeper as soon as I stepped in the door and it just smelled right. lol. But it's gone now after being home to 5 generations. The woman who held it all together with her magical presence is gone and home went with her. Now I am creating home for my own little family and hoping they will always feel that same sense of love and comfort. But it isn't a place specific place anymore, it's wherever we are together... the connections are home now.

My hometown has really turned into a dump. It is far from the little town that i grew up in. I do not go there often. It really is not the same place anymore.

I just got home from college last month. It feels so good to be with my mom and slightly older sister (no dad in the picture) I look forward to some fun times and convo until school starts again in September.

I moved 1600 miles from everyone i ever knew or loved. The last time I went home it felt great as I pulled into Philadelphia city limits it stunk like New Jersey, graffiti everywhere, a car was on fire on the side of 95. My daughter, who lived almost all of her life in Houston said "I want to go Home" I said "we'll be there in 11 minutes" she said "no Houston this place is a disaster" it sure is, but its my disaster.
