There is no command and control on their use and the soldiers have a free pass to fly these drones wherever they want to kill anyone they want. A soldier was reported saying "It is kind of cool like a video game, except this video game kills people"

How fucked up does an entire society of people have to be to kill children for fun?

It goes to show how human we are in my opinion. It is to create a complete disconnection from reality by putting it on a screen like a video.

It's similar to when the military had the simple targets that was just a circle but solders had a hard time shooting real people. So they switched to silhouettes of people and that barrier of humanity was breaking down.

It takes years and intentional training thats also been tested on for years to create that disconnection with another person.

But killing someone on a screen from miles away has zero psychological consequences in the traditional sense. @QuestionObsession I diagnose and treat mental disorders professionally. I have done this with many war veterans, including men who have operated drones.

I used to think that operating a drone was benign, as you apparently do, but that was until I had a umber of drone operators as patients. Killing a person with a drone is anything but neutral for the drone operator, who sees the whole thing at very close range, and also has to perform a damage assessment afterward to make sure the person he tried to kill - usually with a missile - is really dead. This involves taking close-up pictures of the body (or bodies) with a camera and saving or uploading those pictures. Sometimes people are not dead, and if so, the drone operator has to attack them again, and then perform another close-up inspection after that second attack.

All of this can and usually produce a very profound case of PTSD in the drone operator that is exceedingly difficult to treat. The suicide rate among these men is very high.

You probably think that they are at least safe from enemy fire, and this is, of course, true. However, they are NOT safe from their own self-destructive impulses, and they die as a result of suicide far too often.

I think one of the purposes of video games is to train kids in drone warfare; to destroy targets without remorse. They never see human beings inured or dead as in all previous times in history. No swords, bayonets, gun shot wounds, cries of pain, blank eyes or rotting corpses.

Drones are a major part of war now, not just for Israel, but for the U. S. and other countries.

Obama attacked nine different countries in the so-called war against terrorism. He blew up cars with certain people inside. Even entire wedding parties. Innocent people are euphemistically called "collateral damage".

Israel is famous for blowing things up, then waiting for rescue workers to arrive before bombing them, as well.

A lot of that is done with drones. And those drones can be piloted by people hundreds or thousands of miles away. Those pilots never see the carnage. It's like playing a video game.

I am not a military expert, and I do not know the answer, but it seems to me that they have killed a hell of a lot of civilians and destroyed a lot of infrastructure, and they keep doing it. I am not sure why they continue this unless it is to effectively sterilize the land for a new population and new buildings. It seems to have gone far past the point of military necessity, but again, I am not a military expert.
