Judge Scraps Rule Eliminating Medical Debt on Credit Reports

The Trump administration joined with trade groups to ask a court to overturn a Biden-era rule that aimed to limit the impact of unpaid medical bills on consumers’ credit history

Consumer advocates said the ruling would add to the burdens confronting people facing health challenges. In drafting the rule, the consumer bureau drew on its own research and other studies showing that unlike most other consumer debt, medical bills have little value in predicting a consumer’s likelihood to repay loans.

In a macabre nod to how deeply debt enforcement efforts can cut, the bureau said when it issued the rule that it would have prevented creditors from using information about medical devices — like wheelchairs or prosthetic limbs — to demand that the devices “serve as collateral for a loan for the purposes of repossession.”

This issue is so big it's hard to make a decision on one data point. The problem is the govt has used "health/disease" care to inflate the economy, as it did education... so we don't deflate. Due to that, the costs are exhorbitant and can flat out cause someone to go broke, ringing up debts and break a family. Some of those on the streets are due to "medical" issues.

This needs fixed... we cannot enslave our people under medical debt. But how?

That is what needs addressed, not hand picking tidbits out of this.

From any credit issues viewpoint... if they owe $ to someone, that should be on the credit report. Right? If you were offering credit to someone buying something from you, you'd want to know if you are going to be paid back. That is reasonable.

If Biden was going to wash away their debts... then ok... it fits in their plan. I might even support that... maybe... debt forgiveness or rather, transfering those debts on to the US Dollar, and inflating them away. That... is the left plan, correct?

The other part of this Trump is doing a better job at... improving health by removing junk foods/chemicals. It will help.

He will have to deal with lawyers as well, etc..

I can't understand how you guys reason there in the States!
In particular I do not understand why the people have not yet come together as one to have healthcare covered by tax.
I think it is a collusion so that people in the medical profession such as dentists and doctors can become millioners.
I am not saying that all medical expenses should be covered. Only medical expenses for medical problems that people have no control on.
Medical problems who are people's fault will not be covered. Such as medical care due to carelessness, or obesity related problems these will not be covered by taxes. If people want to abuse there own health and take careless risks they are totally free to do so, but they have to pay for medical care from their own pocket then if they need medical care. And if they don't have money? Too bad, good luck finding some good Samaritan. That is my opinion.

Why does medical debt get treated differently? It is a liability that individuals have to pay back. It certainly affects the ability of somebody to pay back a loan. I think that omitting it from a person;s credit report should be considered fraud. A person is getting a loan under fraudulent terms.

I've been wrongly charged three times by doctors offices. It's one of the countries most frequent scams/ how does this not surprise me when some of Trump's biggest campaign donors are in the medical profession pharmaceuticals and the likes.
