I think for those who think this question is related to massage parlours you've misunderstood my question. When I speak of happy endings I mean haply endings in life.

But pragmatically I do believe we make our own luck and a “happy ending” isn’t guaranteed

Of course they do. There have been many instances where couples are happy together until the day they die and they wait on their partner on the other side.

Not just couples either. Many people in the world have learned to be content with their lives and have found enlightenment/inner peace.

Life ends with death, so you may have a happy period or periods in your life but eventually there will be a dark day or days. For instance a neighbour of mine is 65 and her husband died 10 years ago but in those years they had a happy life, though they lost a child and he developed early parkinsons.

Well, happy endings as we understand them imply an end to life period. Sure, it’s possible to die happy but life goes on with a lot of changes. The end of one story is the beginning of another, and obviously every story needs to have SOME conflict in it. I’m not saying anything disastrous but maintaining a constant stream of contentment in our ever-changing world is a unique challenge not everyone can do long-term, which is part of what makes life so interesting to begin with.

I think happiness is choice we choose to make. You can't control what life throws at you, but you can control the attitude you meet it with.

For me personally? Happiness is my relationship with my lord and savior Jesus Christ. Through him all things are possible. Each day I fail, fortunately he gives me another day to do good and to be better.
