A British writer penned the best description of Donald Trump I’ve ever read:

“Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?”

A few things spring to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace – all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.

Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing – not once, ever. I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility – for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is – his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.

Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers. And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults – he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.

There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface. Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront. Well, we don’t. We see it as having no inner world, no soul. And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that. He’s not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat. He’s more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege.

And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully. That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead. There are unspoken rules to this stuff – the Queensberry rules of basic decency – and he breaks them all. He punches downwards – which a gentleman should, would, could never do – and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless – and he kicks them when they are down.

So the fact that a significant minority – perhaps a third – of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think ‘Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that:

• Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are.

• You don’t need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man.

This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss. After all, it’s impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum. God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws – he would make a Trump.

And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumpfuls of hair and scream in anguish: ‘My God… what… have… I… created?' If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set.”

Left leaning centrist that's independent, my dislikes are driven by personal experiences, other's I have interacted with and independent news sources that make great efforts to remain neutral. My dislikes have evolved over the years, I was neutral to Republican and liking Democrat voters while hating the Republican and Democratic establishment, my dislikes have since evolved, I'm still neutral to Republican voters and hating the Republican and Democratic establishment, but I no longer like Democrat voters, I have grown to dislike them. My evolving dislike for Democrat voters, didn't evolve because my views changed or I was influenced by right wing media (don't watch right or left wing media), they evolved because the party establishment and the vocal wing of the party have become hateful and intolerant towards anyone who doesn't fall in line and 100% agree with them. When I first got into politics, I not only liked Democrats, but was one myself because Democrats at the time we're more tolerant and open to differing ideas and we're willing to work with anyone without requiring them to completely agree with them or pass purity test. Republicans aren't any better and I would never become one, but I at least have to give them (Republican voters) credit for their willingness to work with people who don't completely agree with them unlike Democrats (not all) who have gotten into the habit of cancelling/rejecting people who agree with them on 99% of the issues because they are focused on the 1% of issues they disagree on. Most of my left leaning friends too have noticed how Democrats can be hateful and intolerant when you disagree with them. I've brought it up many times with Democrats being too intolerant and hateful is a loosing strategy, and is partly responsible for Harris losing, most of the time they got angry and doubled with extreme views I wasn't referring to. There's a difference between being hateful and intolerant against someone who hates all trans people and wants them dead and some who disagrees with defend the police believing that more funding is needed for better training and to attract better people.

Being hateful and intolerant against someone who hates and wants all trans people dead, is a perfectly justified response, but being hateful and intolerant against someone who supports police reform instead of defunding the police is going to far and is a loosing strategy that results in things like Trump being elected.

I've always been more centrist but have always voted democrat in presidential elections, until last year. I am still registered democrat only because I haven't gotten around to registering republican yet, but I voted for Trump last year and I will register republican when I get around to it.

There are many reasons, but the biggest is just that the democrat party has gone insane. And all of my leftist friends and family have gone insane. They have literally lost any grounding in common sense, logic and reason.

The border crisis was a biggie. I don't think I should have to elaborate on that one.

The extremes to which the left has taken wokeness is just bizarre. It's like a bad dream that we all couldn't wake up from.

Biden was clearly not in control of the country during his term, and the people who were pulling the strings seemed intent on destroying the country. And NO ONE on the left or in the legacy media would even ACKNOWLEDGE it. There is so much corruption on the left, it's staggering.

The left has not given a fuck about men and boys for well over a decade.

I don’t dislike republicans. The reason I vote democrat is because republican voting has turned into this absolute shitshow of queerphobic toxicity that calls for privatization of everything and essentially making the government a placeholder. I hate what Donald Trump has done to the conservative party with regards to how they act for the views of their constituents. It’s well known that Marjorie Taylor Greene, an infamous joke of a republican, acts with complete decorum and class when the cameras are off. She makes a show because she knows it’s what her constituents respond to, regardless of if it’s a positive or negative response, it’s helping her keep her seat. I would happily vote republican if they were actually sticking to the conservative values they claim to hold rather than just turning themselves into asses for the masses and following the corporate lobbyists that pay them to make our lives harder.

There are so many things, but I guess the biggest one is they care more about freaks and criminals then they care about normal people.

But as for my own party, their hypocrisy is getting on my nerves, they claim to be anti-woke and pro-free speech, but just criticise America, Christianity, Trump of God forbid their beloved soldiers, or God forbid don't follow their flag etiquette, and you'll see how pro free speech they really are
