Why are people so ageist?

It seems to me old women are paraded, said they are hot and desirable, and young men are after them. But old men are made fun of, insulted, said no young women want them etc.

There are plenty of 50-something men marrying 30-something women, or younger. There's far more age discrimination against women.

Yes, once you get to be 50 it is hard to find a job. It is illegal not to hire somebody because of age but just try to prove it.
