President Donald Trump is threatening to hold up a new stadium deal if Washington’s NFL team did not restore its name to a racial slur, despite decades of psychological research showing the negative mental health impacts of Native American mascots. "My statement on the Washington Redskins has totally blown up, but only in a very positive way," Donald Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. "I may put a restriction on them that if they don’t change the name back to the original ‘Washington Redskins,’ and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, ‘Washington Commanders,’ I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington. Of course I don't agree. He shouldn't be interfering with what businesses do with their companies.

I thought Republicans liked small government. Suddenly they are ok with the president doing something like this? Forcing a team to go back to a racist name because it fits his narrative of destroying anything considered "woke" when in reality it just means they want to really just get away with using slurs again without getting in trouble.

I think the president should be spending his time on issues of national safety and security and the economy. The name of a sports team? Doesn't matter. Keeping Americans safe and inflation down? Matters. How 'bout the price of them eggs, Donald?

I think the original name sounded better. I think if you really care about Native Americans, you should do more than just change the name of some sports team.

But that is classic wokeness: It's all about privileged people signalling how tuned in they are to racism/sexism, while still keeping all the power and resources for themselves.

I also think Trump has more important issues to deal with, e. g. climate change and the genocide in Palestine.

What an idiot. Though I generally don't agree with PC name changes, in this case it is an offensive moniker that should have been changed decades ago. Trump wants everything to be like when he was a kid. He probably was happy when the WTC collapsed and for a while the Empire State Building was the highest building in NYC again.
